Tremulous tips
« on: April 24, 2004, 03:10:06 am »
Thought I'd make a thread to share tips/information for playing tremulous, so everyone is playing on a level playing field.

Tips, might not all be correct:

. Booster poison adds poison attack to all alien attacks. Works nicely with granger spit.
. Grab is useless against battlesuits.
. Gas is doesn't affect humans with helmet or battlesuit. Might scare them a little :).
. Chaingun is more accurate when crouched.
. Jetpack can be used to get down from a ledge quikly. Just fall down and use jetpack before you hit the ground.
. If you inmidiatly repress secondary fire after releasing it and repear on landing then as a dragoon you can keep on jumping and pounching. Very fun and effective. A special bind could make this easier.
. /bind key "buy ammo" allows for quik ammo buying at armoury. Also works on unpowered armouries.
. For some energy weapons, it is faster to sell and rebuy the weapon to reload then using the reactor or repeator to reload. Special binds can speed this up even more.
. Headbites do more damage then chestbites then legbites.
. Turrets turn slowly. Moving in a circle or just quikly left to right makes it easy to kill turrets with little damage.
. Tesla coils need a defense computer to work. Dragoon barbs can easily take out defense computer. Two barbs also take out armoury.
. Alien buildings need an egg or overmind nearby. Try finding it and destroying it, all alien buildings depending on it will die.
. Later in the game you might want to replace obstacles with hovels. Both have the same slowing effect, but hovels are cheaper and can take more damage.
. For humans building and jumping on an turret, armoury and reactor allows you to reach higher places. Useful on some maps.

Just add tips you've got.

When using the Dretch or Basilisk try walking on the ceilings when possible to throw off humies as the floor is where they pay most attention to plus being proficiant in wall walking is a Very usefull skill and provides for some very tence stalking and sneaking around.that and iv seen alot of purely walking dretches these guys just run in to your feet Very hard to hit mind you in some situations but not very dmg effictive if body armor is applied
your Dretch is a Projectile faster it moves harder it hits and closer to the head more damage.

using the human construction tool and a jet pack in some open areas may provide for some very secure spawn points and or generator locations.

Move alien structures from the floors as soon as possible to throw off attackers and make a more secure base

if under thret to secure the hive mind a little better try and wedge it inbetween something with enough room for a baracade it'll tie them up for a bit while they try and remove it.

Buying ammo from an unpowered armoury might be a bug >_>

You can make binds for everything. Building/buying/selling/evolving.

Basilisk grab also slows down turrets. You can sometimes take out a cluster with a basilisk

You can shoot over hovels, not over barricades!

Notice Molog's tips are two years old.

Poison is not added to granger spit
Gas does affect humans with helmets
You can't buy from unpowered armouries
Basilisk grab does work on battlesuits, they're just not prevented from turning
You can't build more than one hovel, and they're free (since they're almost useless)

I could be mistaken on the first few...

hovels arent totally useless in a long running game if alien base is underattack and going dretch ends up feeding because all humies are well equipped. Chill in the hovel for a bit and come out when attackers have enterd the base they may pass the hovel by seeing how it Cant possible do anything but the dretch inside can do something :P \
