It is related because according to the press release the Q3 engine is no longer free and will no doubt make tremulous cost money in the near future -_-.. this is causing a big stir in the open source community and pissing a lot of people off but epic says there is no way they are going to change that decision..

What licence is the Quake 3 engine under? I'm pretty sure most open licences would make such a move quite hard to actually do fully, since even if they changed the licence the previous versions would still be under the previous one and people could just continue to use that.


But I'm by no means any kind of lawyer, and there is important information I don't know.

It's leaked info all the devs received from one friend at ID.
I got a copy of the press release draft and some info about the new license, but can't say much :(

Even if this is true you don't have to worry, they RELEASED it under the GPL. They can't undo it. That is like changing a contract after signing it.

Seafoideach is correct. There is no way ID can make Trem be not free.


Everyone, copy that little tiny thing at the bottom of the first post and view it in notepad (or equivalent) It say "HOAX WARNING" multiple times.
