What licence is the Quake 3 engine under? I'm pretty sure most open licences would make such a move quite hard to actually do fully, since even if they changed the licence the previous versions would still be under the previous one and people could just continue to use that.


But I'm by no means any kind of lawyer, and there is important information I don't know.

Even if this is true you don't have to worry, they RELEASED it under the GPL. They can't undo it. That is like changing a contract after signing it.
