Tremulous Server
« on: November 25, 2006, 12:22:38 am »
Okay hey guys, I need a little help with this. I asked numerous people about what's wrong with my server, and they said that they don't know why it isn't working. Well here goes:
I made a VM folder in my base2 folder, and downloaded the game.qvm inside it.
I downloaded tremded.exe inside of my main tremulous folder next to where my tremulous.exe is.
I downloaded server.cache into my main tremulous folder.
I downloaded server.cfg in my base folder, and named it to TEST so I can see if other people can see it (which they can't)
I downloaded tremded.bat in my main tremulous folder.
                                 Server Console
I click on my tremded.bat and it opens a blue console, and a black box saying, C:\Program Files\Tremulous>tremded.exe +set dedicated 2 +exec server.cfg
Here is where I think it is wrong, when I go to Start>run and put down C:\Program Files\Tremulous>tremded.exe +set dedicated 2 +exec server.cfg, it won't read it and says it is not a valid file.

So what's wrong with this? Why isn't my server running? Why isn't my computer reading tremded.exe properly?

Er, the vm folder NEEDS to be called vm. Not VM. It needs to be lowercase.

Try making a vm folder and place the game.qvm in it in the "base" directory instead.

Okay it seems it doesn't work even with game.qvm inside of my base folder. When I press tremded.bat, it shows a blue console. This is what it says the LAST four lines:

------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------
Hunk_Clear: reset the hunk ok
Hitch warning: 114508421 msec frame time

Woah shit. My server(which is a very crappy but reliable Pentium 133MHz) has those warnings, but only in the one thousand ranges.

Okay I think my computer can't pick this up. When I go start>run and put down C:\Program Files\Tremulous>tremded.exe +set dedicated 2 +exec server.cfg, it says Windows cannot find C:/Program

Well now as I put down that with quotes, it says Windows cannot findC:\Program Files\Tremulous>tremded.exe +blah blah blah +exec server.cfg. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the start button and then click search

Huh

C:\Program Files\Tremulous>tremded.exe +set dedicated 2 +exec server.cfg

Wouldn't it be better with a \ here?

Copy this line into the path field of your tremded link in Start menu:
Code: [Select]
"C:\Program Files\Tremulous\tremded.exe" +set dedicated 2 +exec server.cfg

I still can't find it in the server lists. I checked my console, and it says "sending heartbeat" and it should work. I opened 3 ports and I still can't see it.

Try downloading a new server.cfg file, I had a problem similar on a server i was testing with if that doesnt work, try moving the 'vm' folder from the 'base2' folder to the 'base' folder.

What's your server's IP?

:D

And what about the public IP of your server and not the private LAN IP ( the one nobody else that you can use )?

On my blue console, it says "Opening IP socket: localhost:30720"

Is that it?

Well, considering you have a NAT in place, I doubt you'll be able to get a working server without the help of the server browser or without forwarding a port from your router.

Giving your public IP will be useless for now.

You'll need your router to forward port 30720 UDP to 192.168.2.2, otherwise you're stuck with LAN server.

When searching servers I cannot find any servers. Sometimes I can see three tremulous.info servers, but not all the servers. Why?
