All of the Admins Suck. (How not to run a server).

Doing the fallowing will give your server a bad reputation amongst all gamers, slowly ruin the game, and ruin your server population:

1:  Cancel votes to prolonge a game inwhich the teams are stacked.  Players do not stay on servers onwhich they are not having fun.

2:  Kick players for beating you, over and over.

3:  Fail to understand the use of langauge includes the use of words, phrases, and ideas you may not like.  So when you say "langauge" and expect me to self-censor myself to your viewpoints, not only do I have no clue as to what those viewpoints are, but I also have no clue as to what words will and will not offend as there are far worse words in the english langauge than fuck and shit and far worse consepts such as skullfucking a deconner.  Therefor, by believing in the backwardness that is expecting me to censor myself to your un-expressed and therefor unknown viewpoints, you are kicking people from your server, without any reason.

4:  Set your server to force clients to use settings you want them to.  For the record, I have visual snow which causes nightblindness and have to have the gamma set all the way up so I can see.

5:  Run a server on a computer next to you, then proceed to play on it with less than 10 ping.  This makes you an ass because it gives you an advantage over other players.

6:  Go to someone elses server and ruin their game through deconning everything in sight then use hacks and scripts to maintain yourself in the server doing activities nobody likes.

7:  When a game is over, it's over.  So when the aliens, or humans, camp the enemies last spawn mabye it's time to force a new game.

I think that covers most of the bases.

I constantly see myself !cancelvoting those darn atcs votes, after seeing how the first vote went, is that wrong of me, cancelling votes, from people who does just not know a no for a no.

Also, i find myself muting people who spam or act rudely or just annoying.

Oh, yes, i almost forgot this, i usually cancelvote !nextmap votes from the loosing team, i mean that ruins games too, right? there is almost always some chance of survival by a team, and if not, the game will end quickly anyways.

Face it, most admins are good people, so either you've had some bad experiences with bad admins, or you are the fault.

ad1: What vote are you refering to? "nextmap"? pfffft, take a clue about gameplay, the game is over when it's over, not when a vote starts. Those that can not stande the cancelvote leave, ok I get your point. But you don't get the point that loads of players actually want to end a map and not vote...

ad2: I have heard of those servers, but when I actually asked the admins and the players the kicks were not issued because the admins we beat it was because it is generally a verrrrry baaaaaad idea to taunt the admin, even after the player had been warned. Face it. no one like to be called a noob, if you do it anyways...

ad3: if you really have problems understanding "watch your language" then you parents and teachers have failed to instill some common curtesy into you, or you come from a bad neighbourhood.
If you have no clue as to which word exactely causes such a warning, then you'd do good not to use any word that you might think are not appropriate.
And YES I for one would expect you to censor yourself if you want to play on our server.

Remember? MY server -> MY rules. YOUR server -> YOUR rules.
If you choose to ignore MY rules, then I choose to ignore your desire to play on my server -> kick.

If you think that you can join a server and ignore the server-rules just because you think them to be a "backwardness" then I have some news for you... You get what you pay for -> nothing.

ad4: While it is certainly not your fault, you can't expect to get special dispence. I agree, it is NOT fair, but when is life ever?

ad5: Sheesh, get real. This is absolut bullshit. Check up google and get a clue as to the pings and at which level the difference has any influence on the game.

ad6: Now why would I do that? Why should I grieve a game?
As for scripts and the like... I have yet to encounter a player I could not kick or really keep away from the server.

ad7: a game is over when it IS over and not when the game is still going. Guess what... The Server decides that.

If you are going to lose deal with it. Stacking sucks, but the team that is getting beaten shouldn't ruin it for the team thats doing the beating just because they are incompetent.
I always want to finish the map unless the particular map is preventing a lot of people from playing (is a horrible map). I can't stand it when i'm hiding as an alien and someone starts a next map vote because they died and are tired of waiting for me to get killed, or because they can't find me. Stop being so lazy.

I HATE it when that happens. That stupid single dretch hiding is ruining the fun for all players, and mainly for aliens that cannot even spawn. When that happens, it is not a simple nextmap vote that I throw but a kickplayer. By that time, most aliens are spectating and there aren't enouth players left to vote for you so it often works :evil:

And what does it buy you except delaying the defeat of the Alien team? At that point, you have more or less already lost, and you can at best hope for a draw if you hold for the whole game until the end of SD. Give it up, make one last suicide run against the human base or jump in a pit so that humans do not kill you, but do not go running to stall the game if there is still 30-40 left in the timer :/

On ATCS and the like, run to your hearts content.  On Transit and the like, jump on a turret, unless you are making a real concerted effort to destroy the human base.

I still don't like canceling votes.
If the losing team puts in a map vote, then wouldn't most of the winning team, as well as the gracious losers, have the common sense to vote no.
Restart votes because someone goon rushed while most people were loading Niveus are also not meant to be canceled.
I believe that canceling votes should be used only for griefing and vote spamming, but then again, thats my opinion.

I only cancel votes when they are stupid votes, repeated failed votes, or kick with no reason. (or 'hes better than me')

Pretty much, if a vote is called for a nextmap before the first 2 minutes of the game it is legit, and if a sudden death vote is called after 20 minutes, it is reasonable.


On sst, that is what we do.


Finally, please restrain from complaining in public about how an admin may decide to run their server. Most big servers have forums, and if you object to something, you can email the admin in question.

I never understood that on SST.  SD is usually called early by someone on the alien team and of course SD favors aliens.  It almost always passes when aliens are in the majority.  How is that fair and equitable?  Definetly not enjoyable.

Between the nade fest in the end and early SD, some of us don't play there much any more.

But, like they say.  Your server, your rules.  There are always other servers.

Q1 And I admit, I use cancel vote... Well, when some starts a votekick for too good players just becz they are so good.. I also cancel votespams and those are usually just for nextmap, nextmap, atcs bla bla blaa... and kick if don't stop the spam... Of course votes have to fail first...

I always wondered why Tremulous allows a single team to hijack core gameplay votes like restart map, vote kicking the other team, or begining sudden death. The alien team should not be able to put the game in SD when they have the edge. These votes should require 2/3 majority (and I've added this to the next revision of Balance mod).

I wouldn't want to take that away from the human team.

It is fun to hunt a lone mara in the end of the game, if the hunt doesn't last more than 2-3 minutes After that, it just gets annoying.

It reminds me of a game I joined at SD. It was on gloom3b ( IIRC ), with the usual human base high near the sky and no alien base left. What did we have? A full team of humans with 0 cash, each of them losing around 20 HP when they go down against 2 Tyrants and no way to get back for more ammo or more health. And since it is SD, there is no survival cash bonus available
