I think I know of the problem, having experienced the problem myself.  Basically, the controls randomly unassign/ reassign themselves (namely the fire button) in the middle of a game.

As to a solution, I have no idea.

Ironically, the last time this happened, it was actually 4 goons, 2 marauders, and a tyrant.

Would you put that on a memo and entitle it shit we already know.

He wants a long term solution to the problem.  In fact, the problem isn't that straightforward.  Even then, you need to do that several times to get it to work; it just keeps reseting to the stuffed controls.

So next time, don't suggest something so blatantly obvious.  Nobody is that stupid.

if this is the "bug" i think it is, then it's caused by the fact that some servers have fs_game set to base, while others have it set to base2 (notably sst). you end up with 2 sets of settings. you can bug the server operator to use base instead of base2 like everybody else does, but that won't get you very far. on *nix, i recommend replacing base2 with a symlink to base, on windows, you just have to copy the settings from one to the other every so often.

Ok let's plan it out. Asva, you are nub, go sit on rets, I will build, you two go feed like hell, you go pwn their asses, and everyone else camp in the hallway, roger?
the dretch bites.

best fix I would say is to put all primary function in your autoexec (like I do) and bind a key to exec your autoexec.  the moment something goes wrong press that button to exec your autoexec and your controls are back to normal.

Why not symlink it on windows too?
Its been there since NTFS 5

yes, and you need a third party ln program to use symlinks, GREAT ! :)

if its base/base2 issue it wont work, your autoexec will be in the other base :)

I don't think that is clear enough so I make step-by-step

Copy following text to notepad or similar:

Code: [Select]
bind tab "+scores"         // Check scores
bind t "messagemode"      // Normal chat
bind y "messagemode2"      // Team chat
bind escape "togglemenu"   // Bring up Main Menu
bind ~ "toggleconsole"    //console
bind w "+forward"         // Move Forward
bind a "+moveleft"         // Strafe Left
bind s "+back"            // Move backward
bind d "+moveright"         // Strafe Right
bind c "+movedown"         // Crouch
bind space "+moveup"      // Jump
bind r "reload"            // Reload Weapon
bind e "deconstruct"      // Builder - Deconstruct Structure
bind b "buy ammo"         // Buy Ammo when close to armoury/reactor/repeater
bind z "+zoom"            // Zoom (if cheats are enabled on server)
bind MOUSE1 "+attack"      // Primary Fire
bind MOUSE2 "+button5"      // Alternate Fire (Pounce, etc)
bind MOUSE3 "+button2"      // Use Inventory Item
bind MWHEELDOWN "weapnext"   // Next Inventory Item
bind MWHEELUP "weapprev"   // Previous Inventory Item
bind p "exec autoexec.cfg"  //reload this config

Save it as autoexec.cfg into your .../tremulous/base folder

Press P to reload key configuration
And after all I don't think if it works as the bind key might get messed as well... Might be worth trying anyway.
