Just so everyone knows what happened...
I fired up trem today after not playing in quite a while and did a server refresh, only to see tons of servers with "______TREMULOUS" etc style names with spaces and tabs and stuff in the name with the goal being to bring the server to the top of the list. This seemed awfully selfish behaviour that exploited the default sort ordering in trem, so as the master server was hosted on one of my servers, I tried to fix it by stopping those servers with "spammy" hostnames from reporting to the master.
Later in the day the master server is changed to a different IP. Coincidence? Perhaps. I never heard from anyone about this change, in any case it appears the new master once again accepts servers with spaces and what-not before the hostname. I submitted a patch of my changes just in case they want to change that.
Now the ugly part: as a result of the IP change, clients will query the new master server but every server will still report to the old master until the server is completely restarted. Granted, I probably pissed someone off by messing around with the master server which dented the
pretty graphs, but this seems like a much worse situation to be in with most of the servers unavailable at all on the new master. It could be weeks or even months before every server switches to the new IP.
