1. Yes it's possible (by hosting it yourself, which is sortof free).

Nothing is free but but sort of free is to host it yourself. You only need:
1. Enought upload and isp with fine ping times (1M could do it, 2+ is prolly just fine)
2. A free box
3. Some experience of Linux (or another *nix) systems (Well you can always start learning..  :wink: )
4. Ability to run the box 24/7 (Thats not a requirement but kinda recommented..)

*sigh* Okay let me tell you this first, a server hosted from your house, can be somewhat REALLY LAGGY. The best server you can host from your house if you have the best internet ever ever. THe best is if you pay
