whats quake 3 like?

i woild likee to know what quake 3 is like. i dont have quake, you dont have to have it to get tremulous 2 run.
so is it any good, is it worth buyin. can you build a base like in tremulous. do you have stuff like armourys.

quake 3 deviated from most quakes by stepping outside the strogg war and presenting a tournmant style game (likely cause of all the q2/halflife tourney/rail arena junkies).

In general it's an "ok" game. There use to be alot of good models for it (some going even so far to be of q4 poly standards), the biggest complaint was the atmosphere. While people loathered the 101 greens and browns of the prior 2 quakes, most found q3 far too 'cartoony' for their tastes.

BAsically, if you've played unreal tournament its the same general theme only story lite :)

Yeah, though try gto get Q3 team arena, but its really hard to find these days. Or so it seems.

Well there's nothing that says they aren't in the same universe just at different times.

Actually some of the crates in Quake 1 have the same Strogg symbol on them. Quake 1 may very well be during the war.

All that is fun but the Quake 2 designers specificaly said that there isn't any connection between Quake 1 and Quake 2. They even wanted a different name for Quake 2 but all the names they liked where taken.

Quake 3 has some kind of story with powerful extraplanar beeings that kidnap warriors from various planes to make them fight in arenas, that's why you find stuff from Doom, Quake and Quake 2 in there :)

Needless to say, Quake is what you want, Quake II and Quake III is what you smirk at, they only are good because they have so many good mods.

Yes, it is fun in it's own right, but it is run-and-gun to the extreme.  No building and no armories.  You do "pickups" of health, ammo and armor along the way.  It is very easy to find a fresh new/used copy on Ebay.

Quake 3 is fun, and is pretty much the same as Unreal Tournament except for the atmosphere and the visuals. In my opinion, Q3 looks nicer, and has a stronger atmosphere, but Unreal Tournament has stronger gameplay elements and has some nifty features. Quake 3 is a bit more skill-based than Unreal Tournament, though... They both have their pros and cons.
