Setting up an exclusive game without passwords
« on: December 20, 2006, 05:42:48 am »
I remember someone said a while back that there was no way to have a specific list of players that could get on, except for a password. There is a way, and it is quite flexible. All it needs is ip. Set it up by using addip and the ip you need, do it as many times as needed for the special players. I know this bans by DEFAULT, but you can make it so no one but those listed can connect. When you have added all you need, change the cvar g_filterban from 1 to 0. Presto, exclusive game, no password required.

Make the server pure, disable pure downloads, make a small unique pk3 and use it like a key.

Dersaidin's solution seems much better...Many people dont have a fixed IP (and many others dont know how to find their IP   ).

I'll have to ask why the hell do people ask to do it without using a password. Why is that? Any other scheme is more complex and they all require direct comunication somehow.
urphy's rules of combat
8 ) Teamwork is essential; it gives the enemy someone else to shoot at.
18 ) Make it too tough for the enemy to get in and you can't get out.
