md3 files on the Mac
« on: January 04, 2007, 12:38:53 pm »
Is there any program that can natively open md3 files on Mac? This is very important, so don't go all crazy.

Alternitavly you could give me a link to a Wings 3D plugin or somthing.

And before you get all pissy, I SEARCHED AND IT DIDN'T HELP!

You can try Blender.  Its opensource and multiplatform like Trem!  You'll need to find some plug-ins to work with md3s though, and I've never used the program, so I have no idea.  <.<

Sorry if I seem ti be reawakening this thread (for those who don't like it), but the python scripts for importing and exporting don't work when I put them in my plugins folder.
I have blender (python 2.3) for mac, (and lightwave 8.5, if you know where I can get a plugin for that).

I also have Ubuntu edgy with blender but I don't know anything about linux so don't know where to put the plugins. (I used the synaptic package manager to install)

Thanks if you can help! :)

Yes! I figured it out for blender. First you need to get the import and export python scripts. get them here: http://svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/xreal/trunk/xreal/blender/

md3_export.py
md3_import.py
UPDATE: actually, these didn't work for me, so I used the available md3 thing from http://www.quake3bits.com/htm/tools_utilities.htm:

Then you need to get a program called Tinker Tools (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/11967) to be able to view invisible files. Open it and check the box, then relaunch the finder.

Right-click (or control-click for those mac users who still have 1 button mice) on the blender application and from the menu choose show package contents.

Navigate throught the folders, Contents, MacOS, .blender (the invisible one and the reason you need tinker tools) and then scripts. Put your python files into that folder.

Go back to tinker tool and disable the invisible files, then relaunch the finder.

Enjoy! I hope you understand my directions.
