it was tempting, because lots of noobs get this wrong, but i didn't because you obviously read the directions.

If it's such a common mistake why wouldn't he put a note there in the instructions? to verify it's got that extra path.

the common mistake is to ignore step 2 completely and put it in C:\Program Files\Tremulous\base\ (vm may or not be on the end of that...)

It's not that common mistake, none of big server hosters has had that problem, just read the manual

if it's not that common of a problem then give me another reason why people get so pissy when the question is asked... the fact that it's a common mistake of noobs would explain why people get so pissed but if it's not a common problem then what possible reason could people have for being such ass's.

Bottom line, either it should have a note put in the instructions or there just happens to be a lot of people with bad attitudes on these forums.

Up until recenetly(Confess sudden lack of money) SST never crashed(Exept for the minor thing here and there) and almost everything was fine. I've seen servers hosted on macs and linux crash much more then on windows.

In fact, SST just recently switched to a linux server, and suddenly, we get horrible lag spikes lasting for several minutes where everyone hits 500+ ping. I recall killaz server experiencing the same thing a while back.

well here's another one for you, i am noticing a few servers that when you join don't show how much ammo you have...if i try to run my server without the balance mod i have the same problem.  As for crashing ... i've been running a balance mod server now ever since I figued out how to start it up without any crashes.

lol....

For each job it's own tool. And if you are willing to pay ~ 400 Bucks for a crappy/shady hosting service, that was until recently selling Teamspeak servers w/o the resale-license, makes one wonder if the windows-server-licenses are legit, too.

And who in his right mind would pay a license for the server in order to run a free game that runs more smooth on a *nix?

I have yet to see one non-hypothetical problem with running a trem server on windows rather the linux... and another thing... use your head for a minute, if people are having problems setting up a trem server on windows (the easiest OS to use on this planet) then how do you figure it'd be better to use Linux or unix or solaris?  They'd be having 10 times the problems with just trying to figure out the OS.

Linux has it's place as a server, there is no doubt that it is more resource efficient, but for running a simple server for a free game ... get a clue.

 :O

Get a clue and stop trolling.

And BTW, trem is indeed easier to setup a server with Linux than with Windows.

Which brings us back to the most important thing: If you're not smart enough to set up a server with step by step guide in your hand, you're definitely not smart enough to maintain it and you'll do us all a BIG favor by stopping your effort. There're already way too many servers with no or clueless admins.

Wow, for a clan that was given a free server, killaz sure does complain a lot. Anyway, they don't have one to talk about anymore.

It is in no way a complaint, its a statement. I didn't say: Crappy killaz server had lag, hosler ripped us off!
No, I stated that the server was experiencing lag spikes.
