Game crash/freeze after pm spam
« on: January 20, 2007, 02:17:49 pm »
Hi all, I have been playing trem for less then a week and like it a lot. Today however, something strange happened...

Just a few minutes ago I joined a server and started playing with the aliens team. I died two times and made a few kills, until I met a player that after I killed him started sending me a lot of private messages [1]. I then found my screen to be frozen, waited some time, but nothing happened. I could still go to menu via the Esc key, but everything else was frozen as ice.

When I connected to the server again it stated: "It seems that you disconnected during the game. Would you like to be restored to your previous state?" [3]. I then asked the player: "Why did you spam me?", he answered with another spam flood [2], and again my screen froze.

I have no idea why he became so hostile, I just played, and didn't say or do anything. Don't remember playing with him before either.

Although I haven't found something similar on the forum so far, are there others that have experienced the same? If so, is there any way I can defend myself against this? Maybe it should disconnect the spammer instead of me?

If it's unknown maybe someone can perform a test, I'm willing to take part, so it can be fixed before more twisted people are going to use it.

My computer specs:
CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2800+
Mem: 512MB DDR
GPU: ATI Radeon 9600 Pro
OS: Windows XP

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Greetings,

Sjoerd

This is already fixed on some servers with the introduction of flood protection. Sadly, it's up to the server owners to actually install this and make it work, so there's no guarantee if or when it will be available anywhere. It's also not very easy to tell who has and hasn't got it installed.
My advice: if it happens a lot on one server, don't go there any more.
