I'm tired of people whining because others camp. While camping isn't the smartest tactic, it's a legitimate tactic. But, people go as far as flooding, swearing and kicking for camping. It's sick of it.

Your thoughts?

edit: wtf I had 2 other options too the poll :/

Sorry, I looked 2 pages back and didn't saw a thread about camping... So I thought that this isn't a topic that's very popular.

That only means you haven't been on the trem forums for very long. Not that it's not there. Topics like that usually get locked when they start getting flamelike, and then sink down the pages extremely fast within a matter of days.

Well camping is just gay. I often leave servers with excessive camping( if whole other team is camping) because i would rather fight people then turrets.

I agree. But it's not just camping, any overused tactic gets lame. I'm just tired or people who start swearing and whining only after 2 minutes of camping.

Agreed.
Hell, its not uncommon for the humans to be S1, and aliens to be S3 who are constantly charging with tyrants, and then Humans get accused of being "Noob campers".

Camping is legitimate tactic, like it or not.
If the Human team is camping so much, then evolve into a adv. goon, and weed them all out.

Agreed.  I've also seen aliens camp after a near-devastating bsuit/luci assault, recover enough to start bleeding away credits, and come back to win.

And would either team want their weaker players: 1) feeding, 2) noob building, or 3) camping around doing nothing but soaking up evos/credits and sniping attackers?  The team-friendly winning answer is 3.

The poll needs refinement; neither of the current choices is appropriate.

I've got nothing against this sort of camping....

but when a stage three human team in a 5v5 camps in their base with 3 chaingun+ battlesuits, 1 builder and 1 luci + helmet against 5 dretches there is something FUCKING WRONG(happened on tremulous info today).

no, the most common complaints about camping are humans who have a huge advantage over the aliens, but refuse to attack. most of the time, i have no problems with camping humans when i'm an alien, because it means i'm very likely to win, on the other hand when i'm human, i will get very irritated if my team camps after i have put us at a significant advantage over the aliens.

Camping is a tactic, and when used in an appropriate manner (i.e. when the choice is camp or loose) then I have no problem with it irrespective of which team I'm on.

It is however rather irritating when it is the only tactic a team uses throughout an entire game.

Indeed, Camping is a tactic.
Excessive camping is an annoyance, and NOT a tactic.
When teams are forced to camp (example: not-camping would lead to feeding), then it is neither a tactic nor an annoyance. At that point, it is the opposite team that is the annoyance.

I hate camping.  Its unneeded.  People need to defend the base but the majority of players need to be on the map, killing aliens or destroying the base.

When people don't attack, they don't learn how to kill aliens.  Then they start to think that they can't kill aliens.  Any alien before S3 can be killed by 1 person, easily by 2.  At S3, it will take at least 2 humans to kill a tyrant skillfully.  But players will never learn until they try.

Camping results into more camping, which results in never improving your game.  And 1 human can't do it alone.

Every time someone spams their "OMG stop camping it ruins the game!" bind i have to explain to them this : If humans had regenerating health, regenerating bases, and built in radar, believe me we WOUlDNT CAMP, and it's just noobish when the whole enemy team is CAMPING outside your door and saying COME ON OUT, DONT CAMP! It"S NOOBY! ppl like that should be muted, kicked, or banned, it's just annoying and immature

aliens can camp as well, however.

how do you expect humans to stop  camping when you have a tyrant/goon outside their door?

(emphasis mine) I expect humans to stop camping if there is only 1 large alien because it only takes 3 humans to take down that large alien (5 if it's a tyrant and no one can afford armor and weapons), but i only expect it when i'm a human, when i'm an alien i just think to myself "easy win".

Agree with kevlarman.

2 bsuit/chains can take down a good tyrant.
2 good shotties with helm/armor can take down a tyrant even quicker.

While I understand camping a bit to get some creds back or if base is in need of defending, it really pisses me off when humans camp the whole match.

There is also a massive misconception about tyrants and alien s3 in general.
Tyrants are extremely easy to hit. They are huge thus 90% of all shots fired at them hit. This makes the 400 hp seem tiny once you face a chaingunner and a pulser at the same time.

Here is the way I fight s3.
Once aliens get S3, stay in the deffensive and try to drain the few initial tyrants. The second the first rush is over, attack in large numbers and go for eggs as much as possible. Regardles of stage, long spawn queues will hinder any defending so it's really important to lower the ammount of eggs available.

Humans have never a reason to camp longer then a few minutes.
The longer and harder the humans camp, the worse they lose. Thats a fun fact of trem.

I totally agree.
I played a game about 3 hrs ago against laggy noobs.
It was on ATCS.
Now believe me, I dont throw around those two words without reasoning, unlike many other people.
We were S3, they were S3.
They were camping with pulses and bsuits.
The lag factor came in when you found (I had a ping of 30 compared to theirs of about 200) you were killed by a pulse outside in the courtyard, even though the pulser hasnt moved a inch.
Also, at one point while I was jumping up on the central building after attemping to snipe them with a goon, I got sawn in MID AIR.
I mean 60% through my goon pass, while high in the air.
This was witnessed by 3 other people.

Camping with pulses = Not fun.

Wrong. Chaingun is much faster. It deals nearly 50% more DPS than shotgun ( without counting the shotgun reload )

As for why the humans camp, I see two reasons. I do not take into account the sitations where humans camp but shouldn't. Those often happen because of a lack of information on the current situation.

Not really, when aliens have too many tyrants around, attacking the alien base is rather futile. It's not really that you'll all die doing it but that you'll never reach the alien base in good enouth shape that it matters.

See, no matter how big the human strike force is, if you face a reasonable Tyrant force on the way to the alien base, you'll most of the time lose a lot of ammo, health and a teammate or two in the process. For the humans attacking, such operation is very bad. Of course you've maybe killed a few tyrants, but you are now in no shape to continue going to the alien base, and some humans were killed in the operation.

So, from the point of view of the dead humans, you had a completly failed attampt at attacking the alien base which ended in them losing all their hard won equipment. No wonder they do not want to do that again. If at least the rest of the strike force had the ressources to continue forward and deal some damage to the alien base, it wouldn't feel like such a waste. So in the end, humans only attack when they know they can reach the alien base unhindered. It often requires reducing the whole alien team to dretchs, or sneaking around to their base.

Waiting for such favorable situation represents 50% of the human camping problem.

Now, the other reason humans camp is because they cannot expect to win the game without a base. And a human base will only hold a few seconds against S3 aliens unless it is defended by several well equiped humans. As soon as there is a good Tyrant and a good Adv Goon nearby, you HAVE to stay around and defend. It requires at least 2 humans, one to repair, and one to scare away the aliens. Get more aliens and you require more and more humans. Aliens situation is less critical. They can lose the base and they still have good chances of surviving provided the warriors are still alive and with higher evos.
