Frustration playing as aliens
« on: January 21, 2007, 02:25:53 am »
Most the time i'm pretty happy playing on the Alien side.  However some games it seems like my hits aren't being detected at all.  For example, I was in a narrow hall with a Tyrant fighting against a BS with lucy.  I ran at him and clicked my mouse like mad but I didn't land a single hit on him.  even though I was looking right at him.

I don't understand this.  It might help if the aliens had larger attack ranges.

It might help to record a demo and play it back in third person.  It's one thing to read about dretch ground headshots, and quite another to actually view your dretch in third person with blood splats (hits) three body lengths away.  Perhaps with a 'rant you need to look down so you're not slashing above the target's hitbox?

I had the same prob, or to be exact, I do have the same problem.
But with me it's just that at 1280x1024 my "center" of the screen is not where the aliens hit, or where the xhair is supposed to be.
On my 19" tft it is exactly 2,5 cm below the center.

It gets me everytime after I played Human :)

Maybe you could use an alien crosshair.

how do you play a demo in 3rd person?

Use the binds at http://tremulous.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2702, then hit the appropriate keys (5 to enable 3rd person, home/end to range in/out, and 1/3 to pan.

It can also be a ping and server issue.
I have no problems with tyrants anywhere but Beer Garden.
For some reason, I can't connect with my tyrant on BG not do headshots with any alien.
It's quite disturbing, really.

IMO, tyrant range if far to large.
Try a different server or one that pings very low for you and see if theer is a difference.
You'll notice that not all servers are created equally and some even run their own gravity, speed, etc settings that differ from other "stock" servers.

Hope that helps.
Yelling at team mates since 2006!

Keep in mind that the bsuit hitbox is broken, so that its 'head' is actually somewhere around mid-chest of the model(right?).

It happens from time to time in any game. Basically its a case of your computer going 'I hit him', whenever you click with a crosshair over your enemy, and the server goes 'nope, cos he's over here'.

You need to basically set your net settings for tremulous as high as your connection will allow, but it will still happen from time to time. As the other person can just use low update settings so the server won't have an accurate position for him.

Also watch the hitboxes.

I had this WTF stuff a few times too. Just walking in straigh line and not zapping at all. I put my trust in the antilag fixing it, tho.

Since I cannot spectate while playing or while dead, I find the easiest way to learn from a master Tyrant player is to follow him very very closely behind his feet and just observe.  And when he runs from a lucy, it's best to jump in front of him so you can analyze his exit strategy as well.

Glunnator, are you thick as a brick?  Dumb as a doorknob?  Read that post again seven times, and then write on the blackboard either non-fiction or humor, whichever you believe it to be.

Then call a poll and see what the rest of the world thinks.  I'd be interested in the results too.

Trem, just keep on trollin'  :)   I'm lovin' it. (R)

Yeah, its just lag.  I've had the 'no swipe' issue happen against anything from structures to players.  It isn't a hit box issue.

Dude, you need also a warning sign with "Warning selfownage in progress! Don't feed me".
How come you can see the ironie in one post, but fail so miserably in the next?

But that's the bad thing about the internet: you cannot really know if glunn is being serious or not.

This can make for some embarrasing situations.
