Hoverboard and Nuydus canal type thing
« on: January 22, 2007, 04:10:56 am »
I was reading the topic about the "bike" for humans and I had a revelation.

Picture this: a Hoverboard for Humies. Toggles like the jetpack. Increases speed by 2x. Light armor is fine, not BS, no battery pack or jetpack. 125 creds at S2, like the jetpack. You may shoot while rideing, but you steer the thing by looking, so most people will end up running into that tyrant they were shooting at. If you take damage, the thing fails for a sec, like jetpack.

And to balance: for aliens a structure that allows instant telportation between 2 buildings. they would cost 10 bps and have the heath of an egg. The problem will be is that humans can use them too if they find one. Avalible at s2.

eh, who am I kidding? no one is going to add these anyway. Just ramblin...

Humans shouldn't be able to fire at all while moving, or else bugs would never be able to escape.  It doesn't take much steering to go down a straight corridor.

Might also cause problems with hummies zipping past alien defenses at high speed.

One of those crazy mods allows telenodes and maybe eggs to be used as teleporters.  I don't see why humans should be allowed to use a bug teleporter.  It might also make it too easy for bugs to escape.

He said it would fail if you got damaged, like the jetpack does.

Myself i think some kind of speed-booster for humans would be a good idea, although they run pretty darn fast atm.

Maybe you could have an instant stamina recharger?

Stimpack.
Use it, and for 30 seconds, you have unlimited stamina, but a hefty chunk is taken from your health.

one thing about vehicles i'm not understanding. a vehicle is basically a tweaked battlesuit, in the sense that you buy it, wear it, and it chages some stats around, well, you cant just take off your battlesuit and dump it where ever you please, so how are you going to get off ur hoverboard and have it just sit there, and if you CAN make it so taht ppl can dismount their vehicles, how are they going to get back on them, will anyone be able to use that vehicle, will it be destructable, how will it go away, will it just fade like players after they die or will it go away instantly like battlesuits after players die?

Speed increase in general sounds kinda intersting...
But if there was a hoverboard, it would be a necessity to have a DeLorean too...

Well, I could use 30 seconds of infinite jumping. But paying for that with half your life is NOT worth it.

As for stamina for running, you already get far more than 30 seconds worth of it as long as you are using the larmor.

All the sprinting, running, jumping, etc. that you would ever want, for 30 seconds, maybe more, with a full bar when it runs dry.
Perhaps larger jumps and faster speed would be nice too, maybe even throw in faster reloads.

My other idea was that instead of subtracting from your stamina, it takes from your health. That way, the more you use it, the more it hurts.

Well you see, the only situation where I would really need to jump a lot is when I'm attacked by a big alien and I do not want them to hit my head in the process. Unfortunately, it doesn't mean I'm safe, only that I take "half" damage. If to do that I need to pay half my life in the process, it isn't worth it :)

Possible solution : make it cost very little life ( like 10 HP ) but make it last a very short time. A short time during which you can jump at will, during which stamina regens at a steady rate, even if running and maybe as you say, during which you jump higher, run faster or reload faster too.

I did say a "chunk", no specifics.
30 damage would be fairly hefty, no?

When I'm playing human after stage 1, I consider missing 20 HP to be "far too much". Consider that you are using a battlesuit for example, and you are missing 20 HP. It means a Tyrant can kill you in two hits instead of three. If ou are using an helmet, it means a Tyrant can kill you in one hit. and mssing 30 HP means a dretch can kill you in two headshots.

Before stage 1, missing 4 HP is too much already :)

I think these threads cover similar ground, or at least they suggest a speed boost feature for the human team.

Does this suggest that the humans are disadvantaged because of their lower speed? Would this still be the case if all humans used their stamina (sprint) wisely?

Furthermore, should mappers design maps to allow for slow humans, or should the engine coders design the human team's capabilities to allow for large maps?
