Help with making textures

Can any 1 give me some help on making scraches and glows around edges like the ones 1ve show on the massdriver skin. ive tryed but i can get mine to look any think like it, i would like to know how cose it adds a nicer look to it and smoths off corners.

you can use the uv layout

i know how to uvw map, i want to know how to make the same effect on the edges in photoshop or another image program

get the image map
put the uv template on it (white over black)
delete the edges you dont want to be highlighted (from the uv template)
edit the edges a little bit to get rid of monotonicity
