A_Total_noob you give me hope. Surely with 2GHz Core2Duo & 1GB of RAM, I should be able to run this game. I think I have about 32MB of video memory (less?). I believe it's 64MB of RAM, shared with the CPU, that the GMA950 gets.

Now here's my question. Is Tremulous any good? How do you like the stages and evolution and buying and building? Is it deep, or cumbersome? Are there servers out there worth playing? It sounds a lot better than a TeamFortress sniper-fest. Is there an active Trem community? What mods should I get? What other Trem sites are good? Anybody here also play Sauerbraten?  What's a good servers for n00bs? Should I build, repair or just kill stuff? Human or alien? Favorite artifact/activity in-game?

Thanks.
PlayerOne
newer than you probably

Ptsh-
your computer should floor this game !
64MB is not earth shattering,
however, you processor and RAM should make for this.

The game will definately run on NORMAL graphics settings (I run not on FAST, but on FASTEST    ) at around 50FPS.
Still, it could be 100FPS.
I have no idea.
But im pretty sure you can run the game on atleast HIGH @ 40FPS.
Try it out, and fiddle with the quality settings (Set up a LAN game, so no one can bother you)

Oh, and Tremulous if you join a fun server (There are quite a few), can be really enjoyable.
Trust me, its seriously fun to saw through 4 tyrants in a row with a Painsaw.

Here are three things should be aware of though:
a. For the first 2 weeks, the game WILL be very frustrating.
You probably will not be able to kill much, and you will find yourself constantly dying.
After you get used to the game, and know your Goon from your Granger, and your Luci from your Lasgun, you should start finding it very enjoyable.
b. The more expensive weapons are not necessarily superior.
Eg: A 250 cred Lasgun is a very effective weapon for defending the base as opposed to a 450 cred Flamer, or 600 cred Lucifer Cannon, which are almost useless.
c. You will frequencly find your team being called 'Campers'.
Do not pay attention to this.
These are noobs who call you campers are only attempting to mask their own inadequacies.

Also, try to pay attention to how experienced players build,
then put it into practice yourself.

Oh, and yeah, building is fun  :D
lawl, people still play Tremulous ?

Google and that Wikipedia article.

90% of the software on my machine is OSS.  I've been looking for a loong time for this.  Recently I also discovered Nexuiz.  You'd get a lot more people here if you got into the open frag community and Nexuiz did the same.  Who knows how many features one has that the other lacks, and how much buggy code could be done away with if they used the same engine.  I think Nexuiz is still on the Quake 1 engine or something.

Anyway, Open Frag is making, among all the other stuff, a distribution system that's like Valve's Steam.  Also, they plan to use OpenID's and if probably voice chat.  The fragmentation present here is wasting about 80% of the effort of these three communities.  It's sad.  I want one engine on my machine with tiny game plugins.  A game would be just a set of rules, fonts, sounds, and models that the open frag engine opens via a menu.  And we know only OSS can do that without going fascist.

I use this program called stumbleupon that send you to different random websites based on your interests...basically a time-waster if you're bored.

Anyways, while using stumbleupon I came on a thread in a games forum where a guy had compiled a massive list of free online games with descriptions for each.  I read the description for Tremulous and got intrigued...found my way here...and have been playing for the last few days.

Funny story:
I was looking at halomaps.org for some more Halo CE maps, and I saw this one call ATCS...
It's a replica of ATCS; just bigger to fit CTF.

How I really came upon Tremulous:
Then, I came across a Wikipedia article for a list of free fps games, and there it is; Tremulous.

Well my bro just downloded it (he does all the tech stuff, instalin drivers, fucking up the system, repairing his crap) and I got hooked kinda.

I introduced my friends to it and for a few weeks we all played it loads and they loved it. But then they all got XBOX and XBOX Live and now whenever I come into school they are all having very animate discussions about how they owned "GuyX" using "GunX" at "PlaceX" in minute detail for hours and expect me to be utterly riveted and thrilled on their tales of silicon heroism.
Then I open my mouth to say that my Trem map is doing well and for about a millionth of a second they look at me expectantly, then cut back into XBOX chat.

Xbox aint for hardcore gamers, its the easy way to be a pussy and an exuse to say words like pwned and owned which they all really wanted to say.
It also annoys me that they bring this language to real life in copius amounts, I mean, Im all for saying pwned or owned once in a while, but they just blether on saying pwned and owned all day for no reason.
And those are the only Abbs they know.

Im really srry for this off topic rant, but I just had to get it out, abso-fckin-lutely pissed off with themhaving the attention span of a gnat not inextricably intertwined with their own lives.
Hope ull understand.  :P

I was hanging out in an IRC channel specially catered to stuck-up children when I heard about some guy trying to code a bastardized clone of Gloom and Natural Selection for the Quake III engine. It turned out to be some hugely entertaining affair concerning lovable wallwalking Aliens and and on first sight whoefully underequipped Humans. I instantly fell in love and have been playing it on and off ever since.

I found it the "Other Games" section of Warrock forums. I found the Warrock forums through a guy I had met playing Call of Duty which I had been compelled to install since my mom helped me buy a new computer becuase we had some money left over due to Japanese investors buying a house we had been trying to sell on the waterfront.

So... you have Japanese investors to thank next time you're lasgunned by |AoD|Green|. 8)
