And why did you grab every map and put it in a huge .pk3?

If the mappack, has just one file, then selective downloading isn't possible. For example one can't choose to download just the map the person likes. If compression is needed compress each file separately, and make a torrent of the whole directory.

pk3 files are just zip files, so there is no point compressing it.
just use wget of whatever to sync with somewhere like http://mercenariesguild.net/base/
Any maps not in the MG repo?  Email me or come to irc.freenode.net/#mg.

Although, strictly speaking, don't sync with www.mercenariesguild.net/base
Not all of it anyways.  Our own map pack is it there, at about 250 Megs you won't want to sync that.  It does get updated, so it wouldn't be a one time sync.

Incidently, you are welcome to use our map pack as well, it has LOTS of maps though it may be overkill for some servers that are looking to distribute just the couple of maps that are on their rotation.

is use this to fix that problem
Code: [Select]
wget http://mercenariesguild.net/base/ -c -nv -np -r -l1 -nd -nH -A*.pk3 -R*index.html?*
