Alien class names
« on: February 01, 2005, 02:03:31 pm »
So Norf's manual thread reminded me that we need to do something about the alien class names. I guess we're pretty close to being done (:o) so this needs to be decided upon soon.

The poll is still up http://a.ngus.net/montesort/.

My own feeling is as follows:

Builder -> Granger
Soldier -> Dretch
Hydra -> Osylith
Chimera -> Basilisk
Dragoon -> Marauder
Mofo -> Tyrant

Soldier is too generic a name and since we have human "solidiers" in game it's also a little confusing. I want to get away from classical greek monsters (Hydra and Chimera) -- they're over used. (I know Basilisk is still a greek monster but it's far less common than either of the current ones). I'm not sure about the Dragoon; it's kind of a good name. I'm pretty much dead set on Granger, Dretch and Tyrant, the remaining names need a bit more thought...

You guys should replace the Mofo with a REALLY BIG SHOE.

I think Dragoon should stay. It feels appropriate because I'm reminded of the Dragoon class from Final Fantasy that has the "Jump" ability.

"Marauder" would be good for the Chimera, as they're sort of a hit-and-run class.

"Basilisk" I think would be better for the Hydra, since Basilisks can traditionally turn people into stone, and Hydra's have that freeze ability.

Soldier -> Dretch
Hydra -> Basilisk
Chimera -> Marauder
Dragoon -> Dragoon
Big Mofo -> Tyrant
