Moving the Reactor...

OK I had to build on a small server the other day. There was like, two or three people on. I took the reactor off the default shelf and tossed it and everything useful into the purple side room, then started tossing up turrets like crazy. Then some more people joined and somebody started correctly placing my turrets and building some outside the room. So I tossed up another medstation and armoury and repaired out in the entryway, camped the turrets with a mass driver, covered the dark tunnel roof with a lasgun, even did the chainsuit and flametroll runs into the alien lair. I ran back and tossed up some teslas and repaired the outdoor turrets, learned how to use a jetpack, and got lost in dropdowns in my chainsuit.

Anyway, we finally won, I actually got some kills, the guy who deconned me didn't flame me, he just fixed stuff, we really had a good fireteam going, and the game was lotsa fun. Best hour I've had this week.

My question is this. How far away can you take the reactor? It seems about thirty ingame feet or so. It seems to work through walls. Can it work through ceilings/floors? Can the OverMind?

you can take the reactor anywhere.

perhaps you mean how far it can power buildables
it's like a sphere, radius is ~ dunno who cares (it's quite large anyway)

so you could build it in a room and then run out of the room to a wall and place down buildables

but eggs + repeaters are for placing stuff so you can deploy from easier

i guess the only sneaky thing i've done is to build the eggs in the plant room on niveus

and then stuck trappers and hives in the room below the eggs

Sometimes, where you place the reactor it can actually power multiple floors of the map as well... Karith for example.

It was probably a week ago, me and a bunch of players were screwing around 4 aliens on 2 humans, eventually became 5 aliens. And the builder on my team [humans] moved the reactor to the alien base near the OM, it wanted to rekindle its friendship with it :P. Well the aliens figured ok... this is stupid, well the builder also built a spawn and we spent for ever to get it down.

Anyways...

The reactor powered alot of the surrounding area. I started building turrets in the hallway beside the alien base [The one that goes down to the room that's really high]. They killed a few dretches than some damn goon decided time to get rid of the turrets [If only aliens didn't have radar eh?]. Well it also powered 3 floors below it! If you know where the elevator room is, it powered just outside of it, plus the surrounding halls near the high room [as mentioned before], past the elevator room, nothing was powered. It would seem that the reactor has an oval power grid not a sphere since it goes very far down below and not as far side to side.

Maybe I'm just no putting the whole thing into proportion maybe some tests should be done... how ever you could measure that in-game I would not know.

1000 in-game units
For a good estimate, start an empty server, give yourself s2, and look around where you can stick repeaters in ATCS.
BTW, repeaters, as well as eggs and OM, all have a 500 unit range.
