Alien "weapon" feedback for players
« on: August 14, 2005, 11:02:22 am »
Hi,
at first i'd like to thank all devs for that great mod, its for sure the best q3a-mod i've ever seen and it's really fun to play.

Now something that made me wonder when i started playing with this game and that annoys me until now:
As an alien, one doesn't have any optical feedback about one's attacks. I often have problems to identify my chosen attack or even to see if i DID something.
I mean, humans see their weapons and the ejecting brass and hear their guns, but as alien you only hear some low-volume sound sometimes and see nothing.

For example, for the smallest alien there could be some red flashing or blood and a sound of scraped flesh if one hits a human; for the others maybe a hand (leg?) that scrapes over the screen (like the fists in doom ;)) and a sound of breaking armor/bones. Just something that gives the players a feedback which attack they did.

I hope you understand what i'm talking of, my english is probably not too good - i apologize for any errors i've made ;)

Keep up the good work & cya
maybe we'll meet on the servers

Hi stahlsau,

I think there's a sound effect for most hits (human grunting?). Sound's the safest way to go, because it can't clutter the screen -- this is crucial when all your attacks are at point-blank range.

Yea, if you haven't noticed when you do hit a human they do grunt, that seems to be enough for most people, perhaps something else could be implemented though I'm not sure how much its actually needed.
