gamma settings

i'm helping set this up trem at a friends house, but his monitor is screwey and makes it really dark. brightness doesn't do anything, so a noob question, how do you change gamma settings?

Yup, in console you should try

r_gamma 1.7  1.7 is a pretty good value.  I wouldn't go much higher than 2.
