Fortiers (translating Tremulous to other languages)
« on: March 05, 2007, 06:59:37 pm »
Hi!
I translated the "infopanes.def" file to an other language -so more peopel can play it- but I get the "Invalid game folder" message when I try to connect to a server if I overwrite the original file in the .pk3.
I think, this is a protection against cheaters, but is there a way to unlock this?
...or is it possible, that some lather versions will allow least the "infopanes.def" file (((in the "data....pk3"/ui/))) to be changed???

Let's make Trem INTERNATIONAL!!!
...and PLAYABLE FOR ALL!!!

try putting it in /base/ui/infopanes.def, you cant change the pk3 files, and never will be able to.
Lots of parts of the hud are not cheat protected, so this might work.

You might want to get in touch with the Tremulous devs. Maybe they'll code up a language selector so you can contribute more languages to the next version of Tremulous, so you don't have to get around the purity check.

making trem availlable in multiple languages would be great (though i wouldn't use it). Will someone else say: Мы эволюционировали (we have evolved in russian :P) or: we zijn geĆ«volueerd (again, we have evolved). Would be funny to try foreign languages out 8)

It shouldn't be hard to squash gettext() in the client. The character set will stay ASCII at lest for some time though.
