Motherboard limit on processor speed
« on: March 07, 2007, 03:38:00 am »
Ok, so I'm working on building myself a new (fast) computer. In my current computer, the processor is capable of 1.8ghz but the motherboard has a jumper that limits it to 1.6ghz or 1.3ghz.

Does anyone know what that is called? Because I want to get the fastest processor possible, but I don't want to get a 3.0ghz processor, if the motherboard will limit it to 2.6. If it gets limited, I might as well have bought a slower processor for less money and still have had the same speed.

A lanparty mobo and a Duel core 2.5-2.6 should work.

About $300.00 U.S. But I am planning on saving up as much as I need to get a really good one.

And are you going to use parts of your old comp? if not, you'll need more then $300.00 U.S. to get a super rig (the comp i'm using now was 1100 euro's for me, and it still has a crappy video card :()

I'll be using part from my old comp. Upgrading bit by bit, as I get the cash, and as better parts become available.

Also my original question remains, does anyone know what the jumper on my motherboard is that limits the max processor speed is called? Or if that jumper is even a usual thing to have on a motherboard?

ECS nForce 570 Slit-A

It's pretty decent, and you can find it from 80$ to 150$.
It doesn't support ddr2 800, just 533/667. but you can put 16GBs in it :D

About the jumper thing i don't know, the only limit i can think of is the front side bus size.. don't know if that helps <.<
