Maps that don't exist ate my mouse!?
« on: March 10, 2007, 12:53:15 am »
Okay... so i"m playing a nice happy game of tremulous. The last alien eats a fully charged blast from my luci. Then, the next map starts to load and BAM. I'm back at the main screen with a window that says "could not load map "somethingsomething." My mouse is also gone, and I have to use arrow keys and enter to highlight the buttons. I quit, restart, and if I try to go to the map again, the same thing happens. If I go to a different map, it works fine, and when i return about 20-30 minutes later, it works again. Whats my problem?

happens to me ocasionally also, though my mouse doesnt die...normally what I do is leave that server, quit, join another server running the same map, leave that server, go back to my original server and it works >_> (sorry if that's confusing) it normally only happens when I return to a server after a kick though..

Well, I just noticed that it doesn't actually kill the mouse, it just makes it invisible. Which makes clicking things hard.

It won't let me go into ANY  server playing that particular map at the time.  Its as if I just don't have a map... but I'm assuming that either

A. There arn't many custom maps for this game

or

B. If there were, it'd be like Warcraft or Starcraft where you automatically start downloading the map as soon as you join the game.

You have to turn auto download on in the settings.
Also, some maps are very big, and servers will only give you a few kbps so as to not lag the game.
If you have TJW's client and are connected to a good server it will download off a website, and then be fast.
Or you can go to www.mercenariesguild.net/base to get maps. (lots of servers point there anyway)
Any maps not in the MG repo?  Email me or come to irc.freenode.net/#mg.

Ah. Soon as I saw that I thought "Yep. Having a feature which is always helpful and which I can't even THINK of a way it could be bad WOULD be shown as optional and off by default."

Just like names and.. ugh. Oh well. The gameplay makes up for that nuisance. Now I have a bigger problem....

The entire thing seems to be GONE. I logged into a game and couldn't pick a race, and then when I went out I hit refresh and it said "getting data for -1 servers." Is this routine maintenence which isn't mentioned anywhere?

Also, why doesn't deconstruct deconstruct when I hit "e" like it says? Its a real nuisance when I'm trying to play some stupid build that gives us maxed out power from a bajillion telenodes....
