Want to make a map like ancient remains minus the phong shading, don't want to use hard tutorials to make realistic terrain shapes.
GenSurf is a "natural" terrain creation tool that converts a grayscale bitmap into a web of triangular brushes or curve patches. Used with care, it can make some very interesting irregular surfaces.
It also (If you have Exel 5 or high) can use a formula to creat a terrain surface.
Sadly there is only a windows version but i'm not sure if it would work in wine.

Most mappers do not like generators, but rather build everything by hand, since that gives you full control over your work.

Prove that Dasprid don't use any type of generator!
Well, it's simply impracticable to make the AR map without any generator.

If you found a generator that can produce easily the same result, please, give me the link, I'm very interested.

Pay attention to the word "impracticable". It's possible but it's not worth considering the time you will need to make each piece of the surface and 'link' them with perfection.

Hahaha, nice. Me and Smokey play that Quake 2 game, Digital Paintball 2. It hasn't changed too much.   :P

Hm, I should read the forums more often...
Yes, Ancient Remains is all hand made. I did not use any generators.

Survivor

Damn necroing >:E
I'm busy. I'll ignore you later.

Have you made all of those perfect-rabbet blocks by hand? lol

About the trees, which modeler was used?

Yeah, I guess it's hard to believe that you actually have to do something that faintly looks like work when trying to create a map. Stop using generators and learn how to properly build a map is knowledge and experience that is well worth the time invested. Using generators only keeps you dumb and unknowing of how to exactly create such environments by hand. Not to mention the fact that handiwork ultimately looks better.
