Game Not starting - White screen and beeping noise.
« on: March 13, 2007, 03:34:44 am »
I just downloaded Tremulous on my newly built PC.

When I start tremulous i see that windows with the blue background and yellow lettering. Then the white screen comes on before that pig shows, then a windows beep sound(kinda like "bump" actually) happens and the game never starts up.

Here are my specs.

Windows Xp pro sp2
intel core 2 duo 2.3
2gig ram
7600 gt nvidia gfx
300gig sata hard drive.

Thanks for all your help.

Ooo almost forgot. I update to the latest forceware for my gfx card.

Run cmd.exe, cd to you Tremulous installation directory and run Tremulous from command line using `tremulous >debug.log`. Then post here the contents of debug.log.

Ok i did that and a debug.log file is created but nothing is in it.

Here is how i ran it.

c:\program files\tremulous: tremulous >debug.log

should i do it another way?

Sorry, there's a typo in my post. The command should be `tremulous &>debug.log`

C:\Program Files\Tremulous>tremulous &>debug.log
The syntax of the command is incorrect.

This is what i get when i put that in. Also, in the tremulous folder, debug.log gets created, but nothing is in the file...

Great, I've just Googled out that MS-DOS really can't redirect standard error output... If you can kill Tremulous when that happens, just copy the output from cmd window here. Otherwise I can't help you...

Yes, open a command prompt, run tremulous from there.  When you quit Tremulous the command prompt should still have stuff in it.  Copy that stuff and post it here.

FooBar i did just that. Nothing in the cmd window shows.

Would it help if i made a video of me running it? So you can see what happens

EDIT: Ok i downloaded TJWs client(backport) and it gave me an error message window. Here is a link to the screenshot.

Try running Driver Cleaner, remove the Nvidia drivers and then reinstall the drivers again. This method has so far always solved problems I had concerning videocard drivers with Windows.

On a sidenote, are you using 3rd-party drivers or the stock Nvidia drivers?
