Is this a hack/cheat?

On my very first game, only a few days ago, I encountered this hack for the first time, and only just now, after having seen it quite a few more times, I've figured out that it must be a hack.

Basically what happened is somehow someone built at least 30 alien eggs around the alien base - with a significant amount of defense, too.  Recently, I've seen cases where you walk into a human base on ATCS only to be zapped by one of 20 tesla coils at the entrance.  In another case, I was unable to build anything, so I decided to remove one of perhaps 15 sentry guns.  After removing about 5 of them I was still unable to build, due to power over-consumption.

How the heck do they do this?  I'll take a screenshot next time it happens.

The second part would be Sudden Death.
Sudden Death is when you're not allowed to build anything.
Therefore, deconning things during it is very very bad.

It could be that there is increased buildable points on that server.

It is also possible to do this shit with /devmap and !layout .)

My advice would be not to go on such servers

I always  play on that dedicated server called "Dretch Storm."  None of the game variables should change except for the map, right?  It has to be a hack.

If changing base-layout and changing some vars in a conf can be considered a hack, then yes you are right.

I think you'll find that SD prevents not only building, but deconning also. Try it sometime  
Otherwise, someone who joined after SD had started and didn't know it was SD could innocently/accidentally cripple the team by trying move armoury, etc.

Deconning during SD is not always a not enabled thing, I have done it before on D*S and a few other servers.

There is a way that this can be done. Boost buildpoints really high, build, then lower them. The existing structures will continue to exist, but they will not free up bps when they are killed.
