Connection Interrupted Problem: dreaded 999
« on: March 20, 2007, 08:34:17 pm »
Greetings,

Whenever I connect to any server, in few moments I get 'Connection Interrupted' message and lagometer shows 999. It doesn't matter if I'm connecting to server at 20 ping or 200 ping.

I didn't face this problems 2 weeks before. Suddenly it popped up. At first I thought that 'unlagged mod' or 'new game.qvm' was causing the problem. I'm sure that it's not the reason.

I use Win XP SP2. 512 MB ram.
/rate 25000.

Hope that someone will help.

Regards,
Adam

You've played Tremulous without issues before this, right?

Yes. I've faced no issues before.

I've tried changing settings (lowering graphics settings) and other settings mentioned in posts elsewhere. My problem still persists.

Righto then, here's a few questions:
Do you have a firewall? If so what type?
Do you have multiple computers?
Do you use a router? If so what type? (Routers are not modems)
Do you have any experience with port forwarding?

Do you have a firewall? If so what type?

--> I use Look 'n' Stop personal firewall (software). Which I've been using for one year now. I'm sure that I've given access to 'Tremulous'.

Do you have multiple computers?

--> No.

Do you use a router? If so what type? (Routers are not modems)

--> No.

Do you have any experience with port forwarding?

--> Yes.

Add. Info. I've not changed any settings in my computer. (Since the days trem was working fine till today)

I've not updated Windows recently.
I've already reinstalled Tremulous few times without any gains.

delete this folder :

C:\Documents and Settings\SleekSlackerz\Local Settings\Application Data\Tremulous\

if that doesn't work, it's your network (software / hardware) not Tremulous fault.

You might try running Tremulous from the command line to change the port; it might be that your ISP is blocking the Tremulous port for some reason.   Like this:

c:\> tremulous.exe +set net_port 42837

Or some random number in place of 42837.  However, I might be wrong.

Is this what you said?:
  • You can run Tremulous
  • You DO get a list of servers with reasonable pings from the master server
  • When you try to connect to a server, you connect successfully
  • once you're in the game, you time out and get disconnected?
If that's correct, then it sounds kind of weird and I'm not so sure it's a port problem.

+set net_port 42837

Until now I was convinced that this was a server-only setting.
To my knowledge the player connect to this port to handshake and announce what port they use on the client-side. And the port on the client-side depends a) on the OS used and b) on the OS-"net layer".
