Sorry noob question here

if the servers require certain maps to be played to connect... why cant the software just download the maps from the server?

Thank you

Type that in the console and you will be able to download maps from servers, not all servers allow clients to download maps though.

Thanks. Why wouldnt that be set by default?

Also I am surprised that there is no default server list either after being out so long. Oh well it doesnt take long anyway.

Well I figure that there has to be some commercial enterprises using this software that have public servers that can be in the default list.

So...you can't see servers? Make sure source is set to "Internet"

I should have mentioned that I have always been able to download maps of the internet. Sorry.

I was more of a suggestion than a complaint.

Regarding which topic? #1 Regarding automatic map downloading from the server from within the game OR #2 he default list of servers to connect to included with the distribution ?

Re #1 - When I downloaded and installed the win client I had to tell it to download a fresh list off the internet. This could be automated..

Re #2
The reason why I mentioned businesses running this software, because I believe that having their open servers included with the distribution would be more stable than home users listing theirs.

In any case it really isnt too important as connecting and downloading a server list should only take a few minutes.

Thanks

The server list changes quite often.
I get the new list every time I play.
It doesn't take very long, and saves me missing out on new servers.
Any 'default list' would be so out of date, it would be a joke.
Any maps not in the MG repo?  Email me or come to irc.freenode.net/#mg.

I only visit favorited servers, so fetching a new server list takes less than half a second for me.

Fixed in SVN: http://svn.icculus.org/tremulous/trunk/ui/joinserver.menu?rev=908&view=markup
Which is actually very useful for us lazy people not wanting to click on refresh or get new list every time :-P

One, wrong topic, this is about getting maps.
Two, wrong forum, try the Mod Releases forum.
Three, there is a stickied topic in that forum with a list of mods.

Now go forth, young one. Follow my instructions and thou may play mods to thy heart's content!!!
