Idea for CD and Mp3 player interface
« on: March 27, 2007, 02:34:28 am »
Does anybody else think this is a cool idea?

Tremulous is really fun, but what I feel would make it even better, would be a audio player interface built into the game. That way, halfway into the game, if I want music, I don't have to turn the game off - I just pop in a CD and/or activate the built in Media Player.

Cool idea, eh?
I don't think it's Politically Correct to use use the term "JetTard" anymore! I Prefer: "Developmentally Challenged-Propulsion-Enhanced-
Tremulous-Player"

I don't think it'd be very useful, but If somebody wants to code it into the client, then more power to them.
Stop it. Seriously.

you can alt-tab out any turn it on.
Anyway, I already put volume controls in, (pipe the output to a perl script, do echo in game)

Something simler shouldn't be too hard.
(depending on the player)

Yeah, I like playing the old Quake 1 and 2's that have an ogg player built in, then you can bind keys to change tracks and such, really good for owning it up.

Is the q3 music command disabled? Because if not, then you can just put any wav file in your base, and run it.

As for a cd interface, there is one of the best in the world avalible free, there are several! They are called VLC or iTunes.

I use the gamepad (10 buttons) to control the musik player outside the game.
Some interface that can show the actual process and the name of the song would be nice, but musik is playing outside. This way I can also run it on the second sound card.

Most media players can let you set global hotkeys to control things from any program, Trem included. You can't SEE what is going on, but really nexttrack/previoustrack/pause/play/stop/volume should be enough.

Hotkeys don't work for me while I'm in a fullscreen app like Tremulous, I have to alt+enter it and then pull down console to use them.

Winamp and Foobar2k and probably plenty of others can make "global" ones that do work anyway. I use those two and know both can do it without any plugins, even.
