Actually the problem may not be with you at all but with your service provider. Posting a tracert from one of your friends would show where the problem is.
Bandwidth itself is rarely the problem. I have seen very low ping times (latency) on some dial-ups and very high pings on some broadband connections. DirectWave (satallite broadband) is known for high bandwidth, but also very high pings. Occasionally my 10/1 Mb connection will experience very high pings. We then forward a copy of a tracert to the field techs via DSLReports and they track down the offending router or gateway and replace it. Much quicker and easier than trying the customer service routine.
