Bombs - For Mappers
« on: April 09, 2007, 01:51:36 pm »
Basicly what I mean to say is that mappers could add some short of time bomb spot that would work as markers for humans with conkit to use their "repair" action to start placing the bomb and it would take ammount of time set by mapper. Then it would start ticking and explode after sertain ammount of time (damage too). Also trigger some target (train or what ever).
BUT aliens could damage the bomb enough to disable it.
details:
KEY - VALUE - DEFAULT
classname func_bomb
arming <time to arm the bomb> 10
time <time to explode> 20
health <damage to disable> 300
dmg <explosion damage (in center and lowers to 0 at outer part)> 400
radius <explosion radius> 400
target <target to trigger>
targetname <if just someone wants to arm this remotedly>

Actually I think this is a good idea. It'll be like domination points except that it explodes if you're not careful. :D

Yeah, story:

You wake up, an insistant ticking is nbearby, its close but you just dont know where. Turning to a mirror, you see a huge bomb strapped you your back. But there, is a sign, pointing at your ass which says "Enquire within for the cure".

What do you do?

Well, reasonably, I probably would take the bomb off my back.

I question this "bomb" idea... can it move anywhere? Why couldn't the aliens just avoid it?

This was to give mappers chance to create "tactical" spots to brake through wall, collapse doorway or brake a bridge. The idea is NOT about bomb that humans can set anywhere they want but humans with conkit could arm a bomb in  pre-setted point by mapper. If you are not familiar with mapping the whole idea might go through your brain and still not understand what I am talking about ^^

If you have ever played Medal Of Honnor: Allied Assault objective maps you might know what kind of bomb I am talking about.

ingredients:
Func_static
misc_particle_system
trigger_equipment (using (adv)conkit specific value)
maybe trigger_delay

trigger_equipment triggered by conkits, targeting either trigger_delay or both func_static and misc_particle_system.
(trigger_delay targeted at func_static and misc_particle_system for the obvious delay if you need it)
Func_static is wall to dissappear (instantaneously without effects)
misc_particle_system generates smoke/effects

It's not a bomb per se but with trem you learn to be flexible with the whole trigger_target system if you want something really bad.
I’m busy. I’ll ignore you later.

That is a good idea.

Whitebears ideas = 1
Everything else = 0

But Im a newbie mapper, a gasp, and strain at connecting hallways and have heart attacks making doors.

I know that you can do something this way but my idea was that humans need to hold their repair for some time to arm the bomb then aliens have short peroid of time to kill the bomb before it explodes to prevent some change in map.

Example:
In middle of map there is tyrant wide bridge above river that leads almost directly to human base. only other way to other side is underground crypt that takes lot longer to get through with a tyrant. if something falls to river it can only return center area of map or use ladders to get on human side.
there are also service ladders under bridge that lead to perfect spot to demolize it. So, If humans demolize bridge with large explosive on right spot tyrants have to take long route to human base and humans only need to fear adv dragoons pouncing over river to human base.

PS. Don't you dare steal the idea! This map is almost done ^^

Except that trem in it's current form doesn't have it built in the way you want. With some trains a la pulse you could make it so conkits have to be in an area for a certain time before the bomb can be activated which could then have it's own countdown. One step up from that is building a repeater defined by trigger_buildable which actually aims at the train but which has to be located inside an area which damages it to work. You have your magic repair there, just no reset.

And you can already do on/off doors etc.
