Is there a mac program that I convert .map files to .pk3? Like Q3Map2Toolz for mac, maybe?

Use your favorite zip compression program, just change the zip file's extension to pk3.

well yeah but then I have to manually add all my textures and stuff which can be a pain and I was just wondering if there was a program similar to the mapacker tool included in the Q3Map2Toolz for mac.

.maps do not become .pk3s.

.maps are turned into .bsps

the .bsp (and the rest of the relevant files) are thusly put into a .zip

this .zip is then renamed to .pk3 and pk3 is just a zip extention.

To simplify: find a archiving program that works for mac on a .zip format and just change the extention after you've put your COMPILED .bsp inside (retaining dir structure, ie. /maps/yourmap.bsp)

The mapacker he is referring to does this all for you in one press not including all those textures you didn't use etc. So he is effectively using a mapacker. Any coder who can make that for trem gets eternal praise from the mappers. Until then, q3map2toolz mapacker > manual.

I still don't really get how to compile my map into a pk3...in my gtkradiant application there's a menu called bsp and according to the manual its supposed to be used for compiled but there are no options...it's a blank menu item...any ideas?

You need a correct project file and have to edit it's paths most likely. Check the mapping wiki install pages.

I have and my project file matches theirs but I am on a mac and there's no mac wiki install guide so if anyone has a mac out there would they mind posting the contents of their project file or something? Also does anyone know how to add new textures and where they are kept?

yeah well I get that a .pk3 is just a zip changed and everything...but I don't know how to like find all the textures and add them in the right places..and how to get my .map into a .bsp and stuff. I know q3map2toolz does this but I was wondering if there was any way I could achieve this on a mac

    Compile your map to bsp
Make a new folder in your Finder
In this folder make a "maps" folder, a "scripts" folder and a "textures" folder
    The folders are the following
"Maps": your .bsp file goes in here
"Scripts": your shader files, arena files and particle files go here (ask someone like DASPRiD for info on these*)
"Textures": place all the textures you used in your map here.

Having done this, download iPak3 from
http://pure-mac.com/
Open iPak3 and drag your folder into the window[/list]

Voila! You're completed pk3 is ready.

*Sorry DASPRiD, but you know all about this shiot.
