Suggestion for end game
« on: April 04, 2006, 10:21:08 pm »
Ok, im sure that a lot of people agree that aliens are quite powerful, but I feel the classes are about right after playing the game for a while. I wouldn't strengthen/weaken any of the classes. I did find the las gun (green firey one) quite odd and difficult to use though.

My suggestion:
Without an overmind, the aliens don't heal/heal at reduced rate. One guy as a tyrant forced a draw against 5 humans (and almost had us once) just because we couldn't kill him. This would make overminds a lot more valuable im sure.

The rationale behind this idea is: without a base 4 humans with high end weapons and battlesuits are pretty much helpless, however without a base 4 tyrants still have a good chance of winning and can needlessly prolong the game while the other players have to sit out for ages.

Not really, all it takes is human players that know how to work in a team and chase aliens, thats probably the most important part of killing the bigger aliens, many times I chase low health tyrants by myself and end up getting killed because of the lack of team support. Any good alien player knows that he's in trouble if theres more than 4 decently armed humans (read, helmet+lightarmour + lasgun at least) chasing him.

I agree. I've seen 3 humans, one with the Lucifer Cannon and the others with chainguns take down a Tyrant effortlessly. All you need is a good long corridor.

a) Tyrants move faster than humans therefore very hard to corner and finish off (depends on the map, but on most maps this is the case).
b) In most cases finishing off a Tyrant requires the Tyrant to be an aggressive player (i.e running at 4 humans in a corrider) otherwise you don't get enough time to shoot at them.

In the endgame a tyrant can quite easily force a draw if the player is clever. That is the problem I am trying to solve, not 'weaken tyrants they are too hard'.

Smart human players KNOW how to trap tyrants. Thats what I'm saying, to attack anyone from the group the tyrant would still have to get close, giving the humans chance to attack while he's charging, then block the exit (with a bsuit) and the tyrant will be brought down quickly, if everyone is shooting at it. Killing the reheal when theres no OM would kill alien counter attacks and playing as alien is already hard enough if you don't have s3.

Hi!

I agree with Sandy.
Defending the base should be the most important I thing. If the base is fully destoryed and a new is not build quickly, it should be a big disadvantage for any team.
If humans loose their base, they can improve their health only once, and if they run out of ammo, they are helpless.

Catalyc, you are right _if_ the alien is attacking you. But if he is escaping than basically you can't kill him.
The other thing is that to trap the alien there must be at least 5 humans I think, and they must be quite quick.

Shouldn't we do a "proof of concept" match these days? :D

Reheal is a big advantage I agree. Maybe something like 2 mins without an overmind and you lose the reheal ability. Unless the alien team is screwed, they usually have an overmind back up in this time.
