Involuntary Aimbotting Bug?
« on: April 21, 2007, 08:37:25 pm »
Hi all,

some wierd experience I had, unfortunately I don't remember the server. Some 5 minutes after joining H thinking I had a good day someone began accusing me of aimbotting. Now, usually that's kind of a compliment, since I don't even know how to install an aimbot.

But then I bought a MD (with which I usually suck) and got 5-6 dretches in a row. The last one I had to turn about 90 degrees for. If I had been speccing me, I would have been convinced there was an aimbot activated.

Has any of you experienced something like that in the past? Is it a known bug, that someone can somehow "implant" this in your client or whatever?

Cheers,
Raphael

That can be caused by unlagged, quite like the percieved 90° chomps, pounces ot the dretch-fly-by-headbite .)

In that case I now understand why Good Players (tm) don't like Unlagged :-)

If you have some thing like 500 ping and unlagged is on, even 5 year old kid can beat everyone on server and get kicked for hacking :P

i've seen that happen before unlagged :P(well, he didn't have 500 ping, but the rest happened). seriously though, i don't see why so many people complain about not having to lead their targets. besides, have you ever seen a player leave a server because their ping is too low? that's exactly what people are doing now.

Shotgun too. And you can consider all alien attacks to be hitscan either.

Rifle isn't hitscan. Try shooting a wall across the area near human base on Transit, there's a delay.

I think unlagged is great. It evens out the game for higher pingers.

http://tremulous.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3808&
Its not the unlagged guys fault you came around the corner and ran away thinking you got away.  He actually shot you when you came around the corner and you just didnt know it yet.  Than when ur behind the corner and die, you get mad because of unlagged. Well if he had better ping and it wasnt unlagged you would be dead anyways.

rifle is hitscan, the holes just don't show up until the server registers the shot and tells your client to put a hole in the wall. there was a patch in the original unlagged project that would cause the client to predict the server telling it to put the hole in the wall (or the alien for that matter) and play the animation immediately, but tjw chose not to include that in tremulous, since it isn't really a big deal.

Not quite, you would have seen your health go down & left for that safe corner sooner.

What rapha experienced is the core if what id Software means. According to Freud, the 'id' is the part of the brain where the instinct resides. id Software hasn't chosen this name without reason, since their games are all about instinct. What rapha experienced was merely his instinct taking over from his common sense, leaving him awed at his supposed aiming skills, while it was nothing more than his automatic pilot engaging and making him own, just as the intention of an id Software game is. Your instinct is what makes you own, not your knowledge or common sense. So rapha, concentrate less on Tremulous and just let yourself go with the flow. You will see it makes you a better player.

Well I just had a game yesterday where unlagged just plain didn't work. Nothing was wrong, I had no warping, NOTHING. It just didn't work. Checked /serverstatus, it was on. I still got the bad delay. Nothing happened besides that, no freezing or anything. I went to another place where I got close to the same ping with unlagged and got no issues.

..and the 'id' gamers are the ones who find unlagged (and lag itself, for that matter) frustrating. When your id does it's usual thing with alteration like that, it'll miss. It'll miss over and over.

A similar thing happens when you change your mouse sensitivity (though this alteration you can adapt to, whereas unlagged makes unpredictable changes and so is hard to adapt to).

Unlagged sucks ass. I hate being killed with a MD when I've been around a corner for several seconds, especially not by some 10 year old kid on dialup.

+1. Humans were easy enough allready, now they own with anything hitscan, nomatter what the skill level. It's impossible to approach a human with a dretch even on maps like nexus 6.

The one thing good about it is I find it helps me land a headshot.
