This server is not affiliated with Boom Boom or with www.fragify.com

Looks like someone is trying to steal GUIDs or get a popular server right off the bat.

Does anyone have any more information about this server?
Contact info, known admins, anything?

The Newer TJW clients prevent GUID stealing, correct?

Edit: I ask because I played there, and several well known and skilled players were given admin rights there as well.

Looks like someone can't be creative enough to come up with there own name.  I can see if you were affiliated with the other server in any way, but your not!  I am one of the two server-ops on the real boom boom #Virginia, USA# and you have nothing to do with us!

I am all about someone creating there own server, but man can't you be creative enough to have your own name rather than act as though you are in some way connected to Boom Boom so that you can hopefully populate your server.

The GUID is needed by the server to give the set rights. The server ops would be able to see this clearly, especially if they change their level. In which case their GUID would be in the "admin.dat" config file. Depending on the configuration of admin permissions, certain admins would also be able to view the GUID in game.

The real Boom Boom (Fragify.com) has had an issue with server ops noting the GUID of some of our (Boom Boom community) admins already. I hope that this is just an attempt to gain popularity quickly, but I fear that this is an attempt to trick our admins into going to the wrong server, which could cause serious problems.

Yes, but some clients not only make the GUIDs much harder to fake (impossible without editing the source) they also generate server-specific GUIDs so that going to SST with the GUID you stole off someone in your new server will not help you at all because they have a different GUID on SST and your stolen GUID is not linked with their admin there.

i dont think it's a guid stealer, i mean come on if he was, wouldn't he give admins to people? people begged for admins and yet the person didn;t get admin so im guessing

A. he's a dumb guid stealer
B. trying to have a popular server

Jet, to steal a GUID you don't need to give the players any level.
Have a look into the server-logs .)

I can get the IP of the server and look into who is providing the internet for them, and I can also look into my servers to see if I can find a direct IP and it will give you who is hosting the server.

If they have cl_guidServerUnique 1, then yes. This defaults to 0, in which case no, they are not protected.

guidServerUnique gives you a different GUID for each server, such that your GUID on the "bad" server will not work if someone tries to use it to impersonate you on the "good" server.

Well why dont anyone do it then, I have yet to see anyone post anything about his IP or even mention looking into who is hosting it, all I see is somene asking to find out who it is.  Yea of course I know anyone can do it, but I offered myself to do it to save trouble from everyone going in having to shutdown there server to look into the logs.

Now anything else further you like to say to me?

lol "shuting down the server" to look at the logs? maaan, get a clue, will you?
If have the server-browser, just  do a "server-info" and viola, you have the IP.
Then do a whois on the IP et voila you have the Owner and hoster, heck even with his full address...

If someone can't be bothered to do that himself, he should be ignored.

btw that IS in the 101 of internet-usage...

So you go ahead and shut down your server just to get the IP and the addresses. roflols

Get slot of player
Run /rcon dumpuser #
condump

Presto. You see their full guid, no huge logfiles to download.

The server admin spoke with me, seemed rather friendly, and seemed to know my who I was. I don't find him malicious at all, just trying to remain anonymous. It's a decent server as far as I can tell, if there's any server that needs a ban, its S11, not this one.
