XQF 1.0.5 and Tremulous not starting as it should be.
« on: April 30, 2007, 03:42:03 am »
Hello.
When i try to connect to a trem server via XQF, tremulous starts in a normal way, just like if you were invoking it from the Games menu. The splash screens are seen, then the trem menu, and nothing else happens.
I mean, when i use XQF to play it is supposed that trem starts trying to connect to the chosen server, right? That's my problem. It doesn't happen here. No matter if i use XQF or not, i have to use the in-game browser...
Please give me a clue to get it working...  :(

you have to set the command to /path/to/tremulous +connect %s

Got trem from the ubuntu repos.
I tried "tremulous +connect %s" in the command line, and in the working path tried
/usr/games/tremulous
~/.tremulous
/usr/share/tremulous

and another one i cant remember.

Nothing worked. :(

Maybe getting it from the trem page and reinstall?

you need the executable name, probably /usr/local/games/tremulous/tremulous.x86 if you installed the .run file from the website

I'm starting to think this is a problem with trem from the repos. Theres no tremulous.x86 here.

i only found a binary without x86 extension in /usr/lib/tremulous wich is 1.4 MiB. Doubleclicking this file does nothing, but there's a tremulous script in /usr/games, wich launches the game.

yeah, the debian package maintainer did a pretty bad job with that package, so even though i normally hate installing packages that aren't in the repos, i was pretty much forced to for tremulous (but i also have like 30 copies of the tremulous source on my laptop :P). in the debian package the executable is /usr/lib/tremulous/tremulous. the script in /usr/games/ strips all the arguments though, so you can't use it.

So i have to redownload and reinstall it... mang :x
It's the only game iĺl have to dld three times!!
1º when i first got it
2º when i updated to feisty (feisty updates it just because the debs are not feisty labeled. duh)
3º and now to get it right...

Not cool

So the moral is not to get it from the repos if you're on ubuntu. that blows...

So the moral is NOT do use the repo if you want a multiplayer game that still is in development :)
