Users nickname registration

I've searched messages and couldn't find what I wanted to know, so...
Did someone ever think of requiring/optional registration of nicknames for tremulous?
I mean something like IRC registration (through nickserv).
That would make it easier for bans and such.
I would be willing to [try] develop it if everyone finds it interesting.

it would be easy to just register a new nickname and get a new ip address to get around bans, so there's no point.

It is intresting that you mention this.
Have you had a look at the implemented GUID?
And have you read up on our hate for centralized, authoritive servers?
If so, please post your proposal.
