To all those who say that basilisks are useless or that you can't play Tremulous on a laptop, I offer the following:

trackpad basilisk

See the entries for today and yesterday.

something like "|BoT| owns" and yeah, I gotta make 'em bigger or post 'em on flickr or sumpin'

even on the pages (not the archive) they're pretty small

have to play with them again next weekend, if I get the chance

made it with iWeb, and Preview, need to use better tools or push these ones harder

If your meaning the Brotherhood of Tremulous, then I can tell you this, you probably wont make it in with your average 4 kills.

Actually, it was sarcasm. But thanks anyways.

That's funny I won the round by destroying the reactor (which took out the remaining nodes and most of the Humans in base).

O ok, well supply more information next time, you just provided a pic with 4 kills. and for saying "most of the humans in the base" means that there wasn't many in the base,(thats if all 4 kills are from that 1 time which i doubt)

I was hoping one of my teammates got a pic of me on the Reactor.

Actually, I didn't get any kills for the Humans being killed by the Reactor. I guess collateral damage from a structure you destroy doesn't count towards your kill total. Those other four kills were from hallway dretch runs. Yeah, I wasn't bragging about my killcount, I'm pretty terrible even when I do have my mouse, let alone on a trackpad. And I'm really terrible at basi, which is why I was so surprised I was able to survive for that long.

Sorry the blog is so crappy, I haven't had time to learn much about it beyond dragging screenies into the iWeb template. The screenshots are in reverse order, so you have to go back to the earliest Saturday entry to get the whole boring story of my greatest triumph ever.

Yeah, when I get my rig running again, hopefully I can get back up to double-digit killcounts (although I might be pretty good with the trackpad by then).

Anyway, the whole thing was just something I threw together, 'cuz I'm just that vain. But really, without the kills my teammates got, and the defense destruction you guys did, I wouldn't have lived up there on top of the reac for more than about a nanosecond.

As far as seriously considering joining a clan, I just don't have the time to really commit to it, even if I was good enough to get more than 4 kills in half an hour. :P

Lisks are good for lone turrets because when they grab them, the turret moves very slowly. Anyone else care to back me up, or am i just insane?

I'd rather dretch it. Lisks, although they can slow a turret, are larger and slower, therefore they have a hard enough time reaching the turret. The only time I've lisked a turret is, maybe, the lone turret at the back of Tremor.

Collateral damage from building kills should count as doing damage yourself for credit ($$$) purposes...
Shouldn't count as kills though, as you would be penalized for stupid team-kills and suicides.

Hey, I'm terrible at this. Can anybody offer hints or a demo or video of how to takes out turrets as an Alien of meager means (dretch, basi, mara). It doesn't seem as hard for goons and tyrants, but the little guys seem to die pretty quickly. I do know that attacking a line of turrets from the end helps, and attacking turrets from below (when they overhang an edge) also seems pretty useful. But the circle-strafe of a lone turret still seems like an impossible task (as a weak or lowly Alien).

If you get it right, you can jump onto a turret with a dretch and take the whole thing out without ever leaving the top, just make a circle around the edges of the hitbox's top side and the turret will just do circles and never get you.

Although I usually just do it other people's ways...I just jump and strafe and everything all over it, and once you're good at that, you can easily do it taking minimal damage.

For groups of turrets, only use dretch against turrets placed just like this:
(open area) :turret:  :turret: (open area)

Make a circle around the pair and you can take them both out, but it's sometimes difficult and you need that open area.

Basi's are good for taking down turrets. Like Paradox said in another thread, grabbing turrets slows their turn rate down. Or at least it seems like it.

I'll try it. I need the practice. I'm still playing on the laptop, so dretching and playing basi are the most fun.

trackpad

_Equi_: Yeah, the Bluetooth card and antenna were replaced today, maybe the mouse will work again. :? What kind of laptop are you using? What peripherals? Mouse and keyboard or trackpad? What kind of connection between controllers and laptop? What kind of network connection? External monitor? What kind of graphics card does the laptop have?

I'm on a 13.3" MacBook (late 2006 2GHz/2GB/80GB/SuperDrive, integrated GMA950 gfx chipset shares 64MB memory w/ CPU), OS X 10.4.8, Bluetooth scrollwheel Macally mouse and Apple Bluetooth keyboard (when Bluetooth works :P), Airport Extreme base station (802.11n), cable modem, 22"X16" external monitor, play in clamshell mode w/ MagSafe power adaptor and MacMice iBreeze cooling stand ('cuz I finally bought a new computer, after eight years of dialup, with a PII 350MHz Win98 machine). XD

Yeah, but MacBooks are so sexy using them could almost be classified as an exploit.

I do love it, even though I've had the Bluetooth issue, and the SuperDrive had to be replaced. Seems like they anticipated all us PC-switchers, and made a lot of these Intel Core 2 Duos real quick. The Airport Extreme was an upgrade from the Airport Express (which streamed iTunes to my stereo; something the Extreme don't do :(). Altogether, it is a sexy little beast, compared to the previous deskful of computer. Probably not really a great choice for a gaming machine, but oh well...

Yeah, I'm only running Tiger so I haven't tried pushing this laptop too hard yet. Tremulous makes it hot! You can hear the internal fans kick in when you join a server and reach the SPECTATOR screen. And that's only a Q3a-based game! (When QuakeWars comes out, I'm gonna need a real gaming machine.) Plus I'm running both Airport & Bluetooth (even though they're practically instantaneous), so I really need the cooling stand. Still, as long as I can play Trem I am happy. XD

If you guys are using laptops, what mice do you like (how many buttons, how connected), and does anybody play using the trackpad? Seems hard with many classes (only dretch and basi seem easy on trackpad). The scrollwheel three-button seems sufficient for the default control settings.

Also, more turret-killing advice, please...

How do you get to Carnegie Hall?
PRACTICE!
kthx
