Timbo,
What are the forum rules?
What topics should be locked? What topics should not?
Can you make rules clearer for the mods?

I am writing this because as far as I can see they are having difficulties making their decisions.

And we are having trouble because there is a minimum moderation policy, meaning we should think before acting harshly. I don't see the problem really, the rules are a bit vague but most of us can agree on locking a topic, we just don't take any pleasure in doing so.
