Tremulous Forums- Locked thread information
« on: May 14, 2007, 11:34:46 pm »
This thread contains information regarding the amount of locks on these forums. This is not intended to start a flame war. It is for informational purposes and for relative comments to be posted. Hell, do whatever the fuck you want, idc. Just don't get this locked please.

Note to mods: This thread was not started with the intention of it being locked. If posts start to accumulate that would cause this thread to lock, please delete those posts and do not lock the thread.
And yes, I know, I have no life.

General Info
Percantages are rounded up.
Total number of threads taken from forum index.

General Discussion

Total topics: 1742
Total locked threads: 78
4% of the threads in the General Discussion forum are locked.

Feedback

Total topics: 656
Total locked threads: 16
2% of the threads in the Feedback forum are locked.

Troubleshooting

Total topics: 535
Total locked threads: 2
.004% of the threads in the Troubleshooting forum are locked.

Mapping

Total topics: 468
Total locked threads: 2
.004% of the threads in the Mapping forum are locked.

Mods

Total topics: 162
Total locked threads: 3
.02% of the threads in the Mods forum are locked.

Servers

Total topics: 158
Total locked threads: 12
8% of the threads in the Servers forum are locked.

Clans
Total topics: 301
Total locked threads: 14
5% of the threads in the Clans forum are locked.

Off Topic
Total topics: 399
Total locked threads: 49
12% of the threads in the off topic forum are locked.

Supported Conclusions

1.The most locked threads are in the General Discussion forum. However, the General Discussion forum also has the most topics.
2. The largest percentage of locked threads is in the Off-Topic forum. Big surprise, eh?
3. The lowest percentage of locked threads are in the Troubleshooting forum.
4. The Troubleshooting and Mapping forums also contained the lowest number of locked threads.

Unsupported Conclusions (What I noticed while gathering data. Not backed up by data)

1. The number of locked threads decreased as I worked my way to the later pages. That is, there were less threads locked near the beginning of the forums.

Wow. Did you go through each and every page searching for locked topics? I salute you for your determination, but I think I would have rather taken a nap.

The number of posts has also increased a lot, as has the % spam.

I think you mean earlier pages.

Nice job with them mathz0rs (though I can tell you're not a REAL statistician: Those figures would have supported whatever your claim was 98.42%)

the categories that get locked don't surprise me (or probably, anyone)
thanks for gathering all the data

General - (4%) people talking to people, pretty open forum
Feedback - (2%) generally constructive dialogue
Troubleshooting - (.004%) people helping people, for the most part
Mapping - (.004%) mappers helping mappers (& people who can't load maps)
Mods - (.02%) recent origin? free exchange of goofiness & flaming?
Servers - (8%) people complaining in a forum for admins?
Clans - (5%) my clan am better then (sic) ur clan/"Match?"
Off Topic - (12%) greatest instances of insta-lock?/t3h 5p4mz0rz

we of the trem forums often refer to them in isolation
how would these numbers compare to another gaming forum?
to another forum of a different nature? (comix, techstuff, gardening)

mod edit: please don't quote the entirety of a post that large unless you have a reason to do so - kevlarman
Counter Edit: My apologies.  Look back at my post history and I think you'll find I'm pretty good about that.  Don't you have spammers to be bothering rather than being the quote-nazi?

Probably because the flamers and spammers here don't even have a clue.  Most likely, they probably flip a coin when determining which button, the power or reset switch, actually make the pretty lights go on.

I don't know any other gaming forums, but this place is massively worse than any other forums I have ever seen.

Neat stats.. you have to take into account that once upon a time there were only the devs modding.. then 3 more of us (i think it was 3..) were added when the devs stopped showing up so much, and now we have 8...
I'd expect recent locks to be much more because of the growing number of mods.
I've seen a few threads i don't think needed a lock, but i don't go unlocking other people's locks, but for the most part you all have your selves to blame!  :P

Well, that is most likely true but there are ever so more spammers now then at the beginning of the forums.

there are ever so more spammers because there are ever so more people
i wonder if its possible to find a percentage likelyhood that a new member will be a spammer or may exhibit spammer-like tendancies on occasion.
im no expert on data analysis though, anyone who is?
