Help needed getting tremulous to run on debian
« on: May 21, 2007, 08:42:49 pm »
I'm experiencing a strange problem with tremulous on debian etch. My system specs:
P4 HT 3.06Ghz (SMP kernel)
256 MB DDR2
SiS Integrated Graphics
I have my video drivers etc installed correctly and can run glxgears and 3ddesktop etc. But when I try to start tremulous, the screen blacks out for a few seconds then the gdm login screen appears - tremulous seems to be forcing me to log out of the system! Is there a log file I should check to find out what's wrong? Please help!

don't use any compositing window managers with tremulous, they have serious issues with opengl apps when your computer doesn't have a dedicated gpu.

If you want to see what happens, start a screen session and then run tremulous from within it, and when it boots you out go back into that screen session to see what's up.
Code: [Select]
Linux: ~/.tremulous/base/
Mac: ~/Library/Application\ Support/Tremulous/base/
Windows: C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Tremulous\base\
NeonPulse

Had kinda the same problem some time ago with media player, which used OpenGL. The problem was a corrupted graphic card driver. Try to install a newer version, and disable XGL or jokes like that.

SiS Integrated Graphicsquote]

I may not run debian, but I sure as hell think I know what your problem is. I also have an integrated SiS graphics chip on my motherboard and it was hell to get to install, there are about 3 different drivers for it. Im not sure if SiS even makes drivers for Linux OS but they might.

What model number is your chip?
Where did you get your drivers?
Do you like Green Eggs and Ham?
