Confuzzled with aliens and predetors

I've seen all the movies of the Aliens series, as well as the Predator series, included the extremely dissapointing Alien vs. Pretador. There is one thing that confuses me though: If humans had come into contact with Aliens in the present day (in Aliens vs. Predator), why the hell did they not know about them in the future?

maybe i missed somthing in the movies. was the human past erased in some great war or something?

It was all a big cover up, nothing happened officially.  Just an accidental atomic detonation and some training accidents.
