Yet another f*****g Vista topic
« on: May 30, 2007, 09:13:24 pm »
Hello everyone!

Firstly: I know this topic hab been discussed many times, but not to my satisfaction. And YES I have installed the drivers and they appear to have opengl support, see: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x64_158.18.html

I tested vista x64 today, fortunately I put it on an old 20 gig hd and let grub do the rest.

But I get this same error all the time:

startup console output:

I dont know much about what this log tells me, but i gathered that it sets the wrong resolution (my monitor, wich is actually a HDready TV, can't support it). Any way to set that to 1024x768 before startup? Or is that not my problem?

Anyways I'd be happy about some feedback.

My System:
Some MSI Motherboard with nForce4
2048 MB ram OC@220 Mhz
AMD Athlon64 3500+ OC@2420 Mhz
Nvidia GF 7800GTX 256 MB

P.S.
I do not want this to become a Vista-flaming thread, although there is not much to like about this OS. Another thing: I use windows only for gaming, and DX10 sounded intriguing. Else I use XUbuntu x64 where trem runs fine.

well thats abou it
sorry for being so verbose

If the driver supports the OpenGL then there could be also a problem with the screen resolution - deleting the config files could be a solution (don't know where they are placed under windows).

But to be sure, check any other OpenGL game if it runs in hardware accelerated OpenGL mode.

your graphics driver doesn't support 1280x1024 fullscreen apparently, try starting tremulous as tremulous.exe +set r_fullscreen 0

Hello again.

that was very helpful, opengl works, trem runs in the window.

But at the main menu I had nothing to select or it was outside the screen, same in game (got there by trial and error with the keyboard).
Since my monitor is actually a TV it supports some weird resolutions 640x480 800x600 848x480 960x600 1024x768 and 1280x768. I normally run at 1280x768 wich is the max of my monitor (actually the max is 1366x768 but the driver wont support that) and since the monitor reports to the driver what it can do, 1280x1024 wont work in FS for sure, and so i see only the lower half of the screen in windowed mode.

Isnt there any way to set the reolution to 1024x768 before you sart??

And thanks for the quick answers.

tremulous.exe + r_mode 4

The 4 might be wrong and need changing...

Hardware doesn't support it OR Tremulous won't let you set it?

hi.
sorry for the late answer.

gfx card wont support it (GF 7800gtx)

is there any card that spports such wierd resolutions?
on my "monitor" everything looks fine at 1280x768

i could try if 1366x768 will work under linux, but i doubt it.

trem has allways worked in my WINxp and until i get my next gfx card (not for a long time) i wont use vista again, i just wanted to test it, and i only need it because of dx10, but since the 7800 does not support dx10 on the hardware side there is really no use for vista.

P.S.
The gaming industry should push openGL, would be a lot easier to go cross platform imo.
