Tremulous references in real life
« on: June 01, 2007, 12:18:24 am »
I noticed that some Tremulous alien classes have real-life counterparts with the same name. Observe:

Granger

-Towns in Indiana, Iowa, New York, Texas, Ohio, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming

-Famous authors, actors, athletes, and military personnel throughout the world have this last name

-Characters from Beyblade, Hairy Potter, and Fahrenheit 451

-Names for members of an old farmer's movement in the U.S.

-Dayton-Granger, Inc. manufacturer of aircraft parts

Basilisk

-Mythological lizard that could kill anything by just looking at it (sounds like some chicks at my school...)

-Supervillain from various Marvel comics

-Japanese anime/manga series

Marauder

-WWII bomber, designation B-26

-Character/species from Hairy Potter

-Muscle car and Euro sports car manufacturer

-U.S. government nuclear fusion project from back in '93

Dragoon

-Town and mountain range in Arizona

-Pistol from the mid-1800's

-Various characters/classes in video games/anime series'

Tyrant

-Character from Marvel comic books

-Monster/virus from Resident Evil (RE Tyrants >>>>>>>>>>>> Trem tyrants :D)

-Song and label in music

So, tell me what y'all think about this. Yes, it's pointless, and yes, it's a waste of time, but I figured someone might be amused to see how your favorite alien was taken from real life.

A bit off topic, but does anybody have a pet hamster named Granger yet?

OMG What a coincidence, I googled Granger today to get images of grangers today, and I freakin get all these websites for towns. Kinda funny.

No my parents wouldn't let me buy a hamster sadly. I would have named it Smokey anyways, sounds cooler than granger.

Basilisk is also the moniker of a Toronto-based psychedelic trance DJ.

Good. That means no one's done it yet. So, how do I go about extracting the granger sounds and models from Tremulous? I've got an idea...

Lately I've been reading HP Lovecraft, and "tremulous" is an adjective he likes to use.

You may want to do a bit more research on the origins of the words. You have displayed a monumental lack of understanding of the basic beginnings of most of them.

Tyrant for example. From the original idea of a Tyranny, from the ancient Greeks.

Just stick them in dictionary.com and see what it tells you. You might learn something interesting

"The Whisperer in the Darkness"
Quote from: "HP Lovecraft"
The unknown things, Akeley wrote in a script grown pitifully tremulous, had begun to close in on him with a wholly new degree of determination.

"The Case of Charles Dexter Ward"
Quote from: "HP Lovecraft"
The book was open at about its middle, and one paragraph displayed such thick and tremulous pen-strokes beneath the lines of mystic black-letter that the visitor could not resist scanning it through.

"From Beyond"
Quote from: "HP Lovecraft"
It is not pleasant to see a stout man suddenly grown thin, and it is even worse when the baggy skin becomes yellowed or grayed, the eyes sunken, circled, and uncannily glowing, the forehead veined and corrugated, and the hands tremulous and twitching.

"The Dunwich Horror"
Quote from: "HP Lovecraft"
He was living in one of the sheds, and Sawyer thought he seemed unusually worried and tremulous.

Quote from: "HP Lovecraft"
'Yes, Mis' Corey,' came Sally's tremulous voice over the party wire, 'Cha'ncey he just come back a-postin', and couldn't half talk fer bein' scairt!

Quote from: "HP Lovecraft"
The whippoorwills in the glen had screamed with such unusual persistence that many could not sleep, and about 3 A.M. all the party telephones rang tremulously.

"Poetry and the Gods"
Quote from: "HP Lovecraft and Anna Helen Crofts"
Woods and fields are tremulous at twilight with the shimmering of white saltant forms, and immemorial Ocean yields up curious sights beneath thin moons.

Cthulhu fhtagn!

On another note, I've been meaning to use the Historical Tale Construction Kit to make a clever picture about the base being under attack by Dragoons (a type of calvalry that fights as infantry), but I never got around to it.  Meh.
