My latest idea for Tremulous community (And making ppl play on those new maps) is a torrent tracker for Tremulous files.

It's not quite done yet and needs a lot more torrents to be usable but tell me what you think about it anyway (And pass all the ideas)

The tracker can be found @ http://tracker.somethief.net:6969/index.php (Yes port 6969, port 80 will forward you there) and rss feed for new maps @ http://tracker.somethief.net:6969/rss.php?cat=2 (Check out all rss feeds available @ http://tracker.somethief.net:6969/rssinfo.php )

Why do we need this?
www.mercenariesguild.net/base can give speeds upwards of 600k/s
What does bit torrent have that it doesn't, other than an extra client to download?
Any maps not in the MG repo?  Email me or come to irc.freenode.net/#mg.

There's too many illegal things on Bittorrent so we must balance this? Dunno, but hey, it's a community driven effort so let's go for it and show that the Dev's/MG aren't the only ones who do things.

Well, mg.net is currently under a massive overhaul, the new downloads thing is already tons better.

And as for everyone can upload, we going to have thousands of unseeded torrents, and loads of shit bags uploading dud torrents?

Also, since more and more server activate http download, those web download are less needed. But a file base with reviews of the files and some more information would be nice. Also if there are maps in the file base, they should contain some preview screenshots.

I like the idea, is it possible if you could get MG to do some automatic seeding? I'm not sure how it works but it might help.

I'd be up for seeding some maps etc.. but as david said...if i see a download torrent, or a download file.. i'm going to just get the file and not have to worry about seeders unless the server is really really slow.
O planet tremulous.. where art thou now?
