zOmG! WTFR? Safari for windows?
« on: June 11, 2007, 09:15:36 pm »
Apple has released safari for windows.
http://www.newsvine.com/_news/2007/06/11/774851-apple-extends-web-browser-to-windows
Now this means us nerds wanting to use a less popular browser with more features can switch.

Dunno, but its nice.

That along with the first leopard news and a whole new site design, apple is really doing well todays.

I like it, to me it's a minimal browser with neat stuff like a good feed reader built-in. I use it on my Mac when I want to do some super fast browsing, but otherwise I use Firefox/Iceweasel as my browser on all my OS'es and computers.
I've got it running in Wine on Linux right now.  =P

You could just run Konqueror instead, which is more or less the same rendering engine as Safari. Fair enough you don't get the Safari UI, but you get the speed, without the WINE overhead.

WINE overhead and KDE overhead (if you aren't running it already) are about the same from my experience.

They started the same, but WebKit has a lot more CSS3 support, and a few custom types (input type=search).

Also, i seem to have a bug with the css font-family. If the first font listed isnt on the system, nothing is rendered. I have posted on apple support, and hopefully will get fixed.

Yeah, I'd rather run leet Safari in Wine than ugly Konqueror and install KDE libs and stuff.

My favourite browser is still Charon. ;D

While I use Camino, I think that Safari rocks off IE's non existant balls

I have used a variety of browsers, but I must say, Safari is my favourite.
The clean, no BS speed + simplicity of use just appeals to me.

Oh, and yes, I do use it on my Mac.
Overall though, I would say I dispise mosy IE. Seriously, its evil.
lawl, people still play Tremulous ?

There is only one proper browser and that browser is named Opera. Just about every feature that makes browsing in 2007 easy and fun is introduced by Opera and copied by the rest. It's no surprise Nintendo chose Opera as the browser for the Wii.
I must add that for the Apple, Safari is a damn fine browser, but I don't have an Apple computer.

I dislike Opera. It seems to be swollen with too many useles features (how often are you going to browse using your voice or mail), and has too many interfaces (toolbar, toolpane, tool window, aah!). I like seperation between my tools. Some people like it, i find it is, well, slow. I do like OMNIweb, but its mac only.

The feeble attempts of your browsers to play catch-up with mine are amusing.

If you think the Windows Safari beta is buggy, well guess what? Its called a beta for a reason.
I'm playing Tremulous on a Mac!
