There are a bunch of reasons NO ONE should run linux.

1. It supports a game called Tremulous. Honestly who plays Tremulous anymore?

2. It is secure. You do not want to keep your data secure, you need Internet Explorer so you can get haxx0red

3. It looks awesome. Who wants to look at eyecandy?

4. It is free. Who wants free good software?

5. It is Reliable. No one wants reliablity?

6. You can't get nasty viruses! OMG I WANT VIRUSES!!!!!!!11

7. It has many distributions according to needs of different people. There is no need for so many different distrobutions like Debian, Ubuntu, etc.

8. Bill Gates doesnt get money when you get it. Comon guys we need to keep him rich!

9. Bill Gates cant steal and sell your personal info to the government. Thats more money you are stealing away from him.

And lastly.....

10. It is Open-Source software. Be honest, we all know open source software sucks!

That is why you should not be with linux!

Ever seen a Linux antivirus? I guess why people program these?

3. It looks awesome. Who wants to look at eyecandy?
Every OS looks awesome, altough the desktop environments from Mac OS(Leopeard or w/e its called) and Windows(refering to Aero), the linux Desktop Environents (only if you were refering to Beryl,Compiz, XGL) are still in their early development stages.

4. It is free. Who wants free good software?
Not All Linux distros are free (SLED,Xandros , Linux XP). There are also commercial. If you want to play popular games you'll either need to use the buggy open source Wine or the comemrcial product cedega (and both need good hardware to use). And do Linux distros come pre configured to let you play MP3s? No.

5. It is Reliable. No one wants reliablity?
Not really, Linux errors can be worse than Windows DLL errors.

6. You can't get nasty viruses! OMG I WANT VIRUSES!!!!!!!11

Actually companies such as Xandros, Novell and Red Hat get money from their OSes. You can even learn money from open source.

9. Bill Gates cant steal and sell your personal info to the government. Thats more money you are stealing away from him.
This is only if you allow him. Im sure linux has something the same.

And lastly.....

10. It is Open-Source software. Be honest, we all know open source software sucks!
Not all.

Tried being on the serious side.

Note: I like linux and i use it (not that much tough) but i have to say what i have to say.

Um of course there are. SLED and red hat are both popular commercial distros.

There is avg antispyware for linux, there is bit defender(not sure) for linux ,f-prot and some other more. (clamav too) . Google would suffice.

Most major desktop, and most commercial distros include chunks of proprietary code ("binary blobs" so to speak), mainly device drivers.

There are many AV products, several commercial and the open source ClamAV for linux. They are often sold to server operators as they currently serve more to protect windows clients than the linux server.

I shan't spam my opinions regarding which OS has fewer library errors, less cryptic error messages, stability, reliability, etc. It suffices to say that they're all crap. I just think linux is less crap than the alternatives at the moment.

This is an impossibility due to MP3's patents. MP3 sucks anyway; OGG FTW

There is one distro which comes with MP3 (TurboLinux fuji).

Ogg for now sucks (for now). Most music you download comes in mp3 so no MP3 does not suck.

There used to be something for ubuntu (i haven't messed with it for quite some time) that could go out and get all the codecs for you.

@PIE: I seem to recall something called "easy codec installer" or similar.

@NiTRoX: On technical grounds (OGG-)Vorbis beats MP3 by a long shot, and MP3 is rather obsolete since modern codecs such as AAC and Vorbis are somewhat more efficient. That is to say, they provide a given quality of reproduction at a lower bit rate than MP3.

What does suck is that the MP3 format has been spammed so much (read: patent ambush). This makes the process of changing from MP3 to more efficient codecs a difficult and expensive one. For example, there are millions of hardware MP3 decoders out there, such as those found in cheap MP3 players and some ipods, but few dedicated hardware vorbis/AAC decoders exist as these formats have so far been the preserve of expensive devices that forgo a hardware decoder for a generic DSP and a firmware decoder.

Thats why I said OGG sucks for now. I wasn't referring to usability, I was referring to popularity.

I wholly endorse this thread as the thread I would've made had I not been too lazy by half.
Although I'm having difficulty working out which poll option is the pro-Linux one.

These "commercial" linux distributions are also distributed freely.  Please read the GPL to understand why.  "Commercial" linux distributions sell support, NOT the os.

Linux anti-virus software is primarily used to scan for windows viruses, on such things as linux fileservers (accessed by windows workstations) and linux mail servers (again, used by windows workstations).  Root kits are the linux equivalent to a windows virus in terms of malicious software, and the issue is frankly not nearly as severe.  Incidently, root kits for windows are becoming a much more severe problem recently.

Well if bill gates is at his farm singing, we are all happy because he isnt in his office at Microsoft. So I think this is the pro linux one.

You do realize that bill gates donates more money to charity than any other person on earth right... so technically if you take away his money you take away his charity money meaning someone can't cure aides or cancer or someone in africa dies.. so buy MS products because your being so cheap you can't pay money for anything is killing little kids in china >:0

He is going to give his children only 10 million USD when he dies (+ some of M$ of course) and the rest will go to charity. You do realise he can end most of the world's poverty right?
