actually, if you have one of the new MacBook Pros, there is a mic built-in, next to the iSight camera (those two tiny dots on either side of the 1/4" square lens, iirc)
it should come loaded with iChat and a bunch of AV stuff
Photo Booth, iPhoto, Preview, etc.
the usual OSX iLife stuff
it's weird being online with a camera pointed at yourself at all times
I prefer to have the laptop closed and use the external monitor for Trem
(and private browsing)

the computer I had before this MacBook was really cheesy: PII350MHz 4Gig HD
btw Equi, the Apple symbol is the place for system info, software revision info, software updates & etc.
I bought the extended care program, and I recommend it, because they're making 'em so fast right now they're gonna make some lemons
tell your parents it's the prudent thing to do
then get an external hard drive and a MacMini and back up EVERYTHING!
the Mini is only another $600 & when the laptop is buggered, you'll still have your files and your assignments and your schedule and your music and a copy of Trem
architecture is hard
without the laptop you'll be screwed
get a cheap backup like a Mini
and some external peripherals (monitor, mouse, keyboard)
save your back and your eyes
and get a $150 hard drive for files
information on external hard drive
programs/applications on computers
how much are you gonna have to spend for CAD programs?
and if you're running anything 3D
stay away from Parallels
and be happy you bought the Pro
also, cache stuffed with game artifacts will slow down
memory-intensive programs for rendering and such
me not very computer savvy either
but the 21st century sure did creep up and bite me right in the ass...
